UPDATE: Expedition Everest has officially reopened in Disney’s Animal Kingdom! We’ll continue to monitor this attraction and update if it closes again.
What exactly is going on with Expedition Everest?
The ride, at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, has been down since January for a lengthy refurbishment. It reopened early for Cast Members a few days ago ahead of its official reopening, which is today. However, Expedition Everest is closed this morning.
We arrived at the park and immediately got in line for the attraction, but shortly after the ride closed and we were asked to evacuate the line.
We continued to check on Expedition Everest throughout the morning by looking at the My Disney Experience App. The ride continued to be listed as “temporarily closed.” This comes after a three-month closure when the ride was getting a refurbishment.
We continued to check to see if it was available, but the app continued to show the attraction as closed.
Note that Expedition Everest has already experienced a huge change — the ride is now one of the Disney Genie+ attractions, meaning that if you pay for Disney Genie+, you’ll get to skip the standby by line and access the ride’s Lightning Lane. Previously, Expedition Everest was an Individual Attraction Selection, meaning you had to pay a fee separate from Disney Genie+ to access the Lightning Lane.

Right now, we don’t have an official explanation for the closure, but we’ll continue to keep an eye out to see if it will reopen at some point today. So be sure to keep checking back with us often to stay updated!
