NEWS FLASH! Disney World is fun, magical, and full of delicious snacks, but it can also be the place where you end up getting a MASSIVE headache thanks to some of its most popular rides.
We’ve already shared a guide to riding attractions while pregnant and a specific look at whether Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will make you sick. But what if you’re just prone to getting headaches or start to feel a headache coming on? What rides should you avoid in that instance? Well, we reached out to our DFB team of Disney experts and this is what they had to say!
Magic Kingdom
At Magic Kingdom, there are a few rides you might want to avoid if you’re someone who gets headaches easily, or if you’re starting to feel the beginnings of a headache coming on. In Tomorrowland, you may want to steer clear of Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin. The movement and lights here might not feel great on your head, particularly in that one tunnel where there are lots of lights around you.
Also in Tomorrowland, Space Mountain might be one to consider avoiding. The fast turns and rest of the track can jostle you around quite a bit. Combine that with some of the lighting and effects, and your head might thank you for skipping this ride.
One of our DFB team members specifically noted that if they feel like a headache is coming on or if they’re just being particularly cautious since they are prone to headaches, they’d also avoid these rides:
- The Barnstormer — it’s another one that can jostle you around quite a bit
- Big Thunder Mountain Railroad — another coaster that could jostle you to the point of making your head feel not-so-great
- Mad Tea Party — spinning, spinning, spinning; enough said 😂
- Tomorrowland Speedway — for those particularly sensitive to smells, the distinct scent here could cause headaches or the way the attraction moves could make you feel less-than-great if you’re already feeling a headache coming
Of course, only you know yourself and what tends to trigger your own headaches, but these are some of the recommendations from our team! Other rides you might want to be cautious about include Astro Orbiter (spinning!), Magic Carpets of Aladdin (spinning!), Dumbo the Flying Elephant (spinning!), and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train (while smoother than some other coasters, if you think a coaster, in general, could trigger a headache, you might want to be cautious).

EPCOT
Over at EPCOT, there are a few rides our team pointed out as being particularly headache-inducing. One that several mentioned is Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure. While the ride is absolutely adorable, some members of our team shared that it made them feel dizzy and could trigger a headache for those that might be sensitive to that. The ride is smooth but can move you around quite a bit as it quickly races through different rooms on the trackless system.
Mission: SPACE is another ride some mentioned as being one that could be dangerous for those with headaches. One of our team members shared that while the ride doesn’t make them nauseous, it does give them a horrible migraine. Even if you opt for the easier, green side, the movements of the ride, coupled with the sounds, lighting, and enclosed space might not be ideal.
Finally, one team member said that they’d SKIP Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind if they felt like a headache could be coming on. The ride can get mixed responses — with some riding it multiple times without any effect, while others do become nauseous or feel not-so-great after a single ride.
If you are walking around the parks and feel like a headache could be coming at any moment, you may want to exercise caution before hopping on this attraction.
Other attractions you might want to avoid include Test Track (the jostling movements in some parts, rapid stops, and fast motions might not be great for those who fear a headache is on its way). And you might want to be careful with those circle vision movies in the countries if you feel like looking around at the multiple screens might not be great for your head.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios
At Hollywood Studios, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith is one that got mentioned by our team members a LOT. Several team members said that this one has given them headaches before, and it makes sense. Going 0 to 60 in 2.8 seconds, flipping upside down, and having rock music blasting in your ears sounds like the recipe for a headache.
Star Tours — The Adventures Continue is another ride that some team members brought up. The ride can jostle you around a bit, but it’s really the combination of the motion AND the 3-D that can make it a bit too much for some. If you know that 3-D effects can already be a bit of a headache trigger, pairing that with the motion might also prove to be too much for you here.
Other rides that our team members mentioned included:
- Slinky Dog Dash — while incredibly fun, this coaster can be surprisingly intense and might move you around too much for those already feeling like a headache is coming
- The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror — sudden dropping and rising movements are probably not ideal for a sensitive head
- Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run — the movements here, coupled with the graphics on the screen, and having to turn or take actions to hit your designated buttons can cause headaches for some
Other rides you may want to consider avoiding or being careful with include Alien Swirling Saucers (a bit of spinning), and Toy Story Mania (3-D coupled with movements from one screen to another).
If loud noises can cause your head to hurt, be careful at the Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular and consider sitting further toward the back so you can give yourself some space from the louder noises on the stage.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom
And finally, we reach Animal Kingdom. At this park, you may want to avoid Avatar Flight of Passage if you’re prone to headaches. One of our team members noted that the 3-D glasses sometimes don’t fit them all that well, and that can start off the issues. Plus, if you are prone to getting a headache from the combination of 3-D effects/glasses and movement, this is probably not the ideal ride to hop on.
Elsewhere in Animal Kingdom, DINOSAUR is a ride you may want to skip if you’re starting to feel a headache is coming on. The fast motions of the ride, coupled with the lighting can be an issue for some.
Another team member also said that they’d consider avoiding Expedition Everest if they have the sensation that a headache is coming on. Like some other rides on this list, it is smooth, but the backward section, the switching between natural light and darker spots, plus the turns and drop could be an issue for some.
Other rides you might want to consider avoiding include Kali River Rapids (the spinning around might not be great for some, but maybe a little water will be refreshing?), and TriceraTop Spin (spinning).
Overview
MANY things can trigger headaches and those will vary from person to person. You know yourself best, so you may look at this list and say “those rides don’t bother me!” while another might say “oh yes, ALL of those gave me headaches!” The key is to really be aware of your own triggers and avoid what you think will impact you the most. If you know 3-D movies give you headaches (with or without a moving ride attached to it), then you’ll probably want to avoid all of those. You do what is best for YOU!
And remember that factors outside of just lighting, sudden jostling movements, etc. can trigger headaches. According to information from Harvard, stress, diet, the environment you’re in, caffeine withdrawal, and a lack of sleep could also trigger headaches. Be sure to stay hydrated, get rest, and be cautious of your diet and stress levels in the park, as those can also affect you.
