A major Disneyland refurbishment project has officially begun!

Pacific Wharf

Back in September 2022, Disney announced that the Pacific Wharf area of Disney California Adventure park would be reimagined to become San Fransokyo, the city from Disney’s Big Hero 6. Now, we have a HUGE update about this project!

Disneyland officials released a statement saying that “work has started to bring San Fransokyo to life” (according to Scott Gustin on Twitter). Construction has officially begun on the reimagining of Pacific Wharf, and we can’t wait to see what the final result will look like! You can check out some concept art released by Disney here.

Disney is going to release more information about the project “at a later time,” but we already know a few details about this update. The lagoon at Pacific Wharf is being drained today (January 12th), to allow room for the work to begin.

San Fransokyo is the setting of Big Hero 6, “where East meets West, and technology meets tradition.” The land in California Adventure will have all-new shopping and dining experiences, including a Baymax meet-and-greet.

The reimaging of Pacific Wharf was announced in September 2022 by Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro. Pacific Wharf is currently home to a working replica of San Francisco’s Boudin Bakery as well as several eateries including the following: Pacific Wharf Cafe, Ghirardelli Soda Fountain & Chocolate Shop, The Lucky Fortune Cookery, Wine Country Trattoria, the Magic Key Terrace (A Magic Key Passholder-exclusive location), Mendocino Terrace, Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill, and Rita’s Baja Blenders. Disney hasn’t announced yet which of those offerings might stick around after the refurbishment.
