April will not be your average month for Walt Disney World.
The parks are scheduled to see several premieres, including a new attraction and the return of a popular nighttime spectacular. These changes, plus other factors, mean April is sure to be a busy month! If you can’t handle tons of crowds, you may want to stay away.
Whenever there’s a big change in the parks we often see massive crowds, like the day before Splash Mountain closed, when tons of guests flooded Magic Kingdom to take their last plunge on the ride.
Magic Kingdom will most likely see an influx of visitors when its newest attraction opens! On April 4th the highly anticipated TRON Lightcycle / Run will open. Even with Disney’s special previews for Cast Members, DVC Members, and Passholders, we’ve already seen some park passes sell out for the opening day. Expect Magic Kingdom to be packed around this time!
April will also bring changes to the evening shows we will see in the parks. With the 50th Anniversary wrapping up on March 31st, EPCOT’s  Harmonious will close on April 2nd, 2023 and will be replaced with EPCOT Forever, which will have a limited run starting April 3rd, 2023. In addition, in Magic Kingdom Disney Enchantment will close on April 2nd, 2023 and popular show Happily Ever After will return on April 3rd with brand-new projections! Guests are sure to head to the parks to catch these displays.
Speaking of the 50th Anniversary celebrations, their finale might actually bring MORE guests to Disney World. The 50th celebrations began in the parks way back in October of 2021, and now that they will be finally ending in March, this means more changes that guests could be eager to check out. Another March event that could impact April crowds is the debut of Roundup Rodeo BBQ. This new restaurant in Hollywood Studios is opening March 23rd, and with its delayed premiere there will probably be a fair amount of diners heading to the eatery. Disney also stated that reservations would be available, so they are already anticipating larger crowds.
And that isn’t all! Other changes to the parks that might entice more guests to take a trip to Disney World this spring include new Genie+ perks, the return of more character experiences like Ariel’s Grotto and Enchanted Tales With Belle, and even the potential for unique 100th Anniversary celebrations. If you prefer your trips to be during the off-season when the parks are less congested, you may want to skip the month of April.
