This massive D23 Expo only happens every other year. The big weekend took place in Anaheim, California, and Disney shared MAJOR theme park news, company announcements, and entertainment updates from all aspects of the company. During one of Disney’s biggest events from the weekend — the Disney Experiences Showcase (which features news about Disney’s upcoming attractions and theme park news) — we noticed some major news that was missing! Disney, what’s up?
It’s been over a year since Disney announced a new theme park coming to Abu Dhabi, so we won’t blame you if you forgot.

Well, at the Walt Disney Company’s earnings call yesterday, mentions of Abu Dhabi came up in a question from the Q&A portion of the panel. Here, Chief Financial Officer Hugh Johnston updated everyone on the project.
In case you forgot, Disney is building a theme park on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi. While Disney hasn’t shared many details, the Chief Executive Officer of Miral, the company working with Disney to build the park, has shared an update.

According to Mohamed Abdalla Al Zaabi’s LinkedIn post, the two companies recently met to discuss next steps.
The Walt Disney Company is bringing a seventh theme park to life in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. The park will operate in collaboration with Miral, “Abu Dhabi’s leading creator of immersive destinations and experiences.”

Disneyland Abu Dhabi will be fully developed and built by Miral, with Disney Imagineers leading creative design and operational oversight. Disney’s decision has been met with sharp criticism and logistical questions about how the theme park will operate on Yas Island, but that hasn’t stopped CEO Bob Iger from sharing photos from his most recent visit to the site of the future theme park.
We love Disney castles, probably a little too much. We can go on and on about the differences between each one, why the paint job is coming to Cinderella Castle in Disney World is a big deal, and why it’s even called “Cinderella Castle” and not “Cinderella’s Castle.” To say we love castle news is an understatement.

Disney recently released a “We Call It Imagineering” video on their YouTube channel where they talked about different castle designs. What piqued our interest was mentioning the castle for the new Abu Dhabi Disney park and providing more details for the Disney Adventure coming to the Disney Cruise Line.
