Free parking is back at Disney World’s hotels, a Park Pass change has been announced, a massive restructuring of the Company has been revealed to fix a Bob Chapek “mistake,” and Iger has hinted at some other changes that could mark a “stark reversal in strategy” at the Company. Now, he’s discussed another matter where he and Chapek might not have necessarily seen eye to eye.
Disney CEO Bob Iger is good at a lot of things. He has a talent for acquisitions (as seen by Disney’s acquisition of Pixar, Marvel, Lucasfilm, and 20th Century Fox during his first tenure as CEO) and is popular among many Disney fans. However, if you look at Iger’s weaknesses, choosing a successor seems to be at the top of the list.

Iger struggled to choose a successor the first time he left the position of Disney’s CEO, ultimately selecting Bob Chapek to take his place. It was reported that Iger later regretted that decision, and Chapek left the position just a couple of short years later. Now that Bob Iger is back as CEO of the Walt Disney Company — he has a long road ahead of him to “set the strategic direction” as he was tasked with.

That strategic redirection includes a massive overhaul of the company’s structure, which many expected, but what that new structure would look like remained unclear — until recently. Disney held its first company earnings call since Iger’s return, and he declared out with the old and in with the new — effective immediately.
November 2022 brought sudden DRASTIC changes to the Disney Company.

Bob Chapek was swiftly removed as CEO and Bob Iger returned to the position. Since that time we’ve seen a lot about what led to Chapek’s removal and what Iger felt about certain decisions Chapek had made. But now we’ve heard even more from Iger himself about the decision to pick Chapek as his successor.
February 8th might sound like a random day to you, but it’s a critical day that could bring some HUGE announcements from the Walt Disney Company.

Why? February 8th is the first quarterly earnings call since Bob Iger returned to the Company as CEO. And it’s the first earnings call since the controversial one that took place in November of 2022 that ultimately led to Bob Chapek’s ouster from Disney. In other words, there’s a lot at stake. Stock values have fluctuated since Iger’s return and shareholders will likely be eager to know just what financial state the company is in right now (and how much Iger has done to change things). But there’s more on the potential agenda too.
Since Bob Chapek was ousted from The Walt Disney Company and Iger took over the reins as CEO once again, we’ve seen further leadership changes follow.

It’s not all that surprising that after such a major shakeup, the avalanche would only continue to roll with more executives leaving and others taking their places. And now, with the first company earnings call since Iger’s return just a short time away, more executive leadership changes could be on the way at Disney.

While already facing the impending dissolution of the Reedy Creek Improvement District, the Company is also dealing with management changes thanks to the return of Bob Iger as CEO, along with a proxy battle for a seat on the Board of Directors. Amidst ALL of this, Disney must look to the future — well beyond 2023 — to a world where Hulu could become fully owned by Disney, and determine whether an earlier purchase of the Company can be made. But it might not be all that easy.
