The Walt Disney Company has had a rough go of it over the past few years.
We’ve seen political controversy, lawsuits, and mass layoffs impact the company, and now, more layoffs are on the horizon for certain employees. Here’s what we know.
The Walt Disney Company is in the middle of being restructured, after Bob Iger announced that $5.5 billion in spending cuts would be coming — including 7,000 layoffs that were previously announced.
We’ve already seen a few rounds of these layoffs happen, but Disney has indicated that more could be on the way. In March, Disney laid off a team of about 50 members on the next-generation storytelling and consumer-experiences unit, effectively squashing the company’s plans to expand into the metaverse. And now, we have another update.
It’s shaping up to be a BIG year for Disney in plenty of ways.
Not only are exciting new experiences coming to the parks, but this summer is stacked with a ton of new movie and show premieres. From Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 to The Little Mermaid and more, it’s a great time to be a Disney fan. And, Disney celebrities are dishing about it all on the latest episode of the D23 podcast!
The Walt Disney Company is in the middle of a huge restructuring endeavor. Since late-2022, we’ve seen some big changes both in the Disney parks and on The Walt Disney Company executive board. Lately, it feels like things are changing at warp speed, and now we’ve got another update to share.
Recently, Disney has been under intense scrutiny. CEO Bob Iger’s comments on the future of the Disney brand indicate he has plans to make some big changes, including a large round of layoffs. We’ve already seen 7,000 job cuts announced, and information about who may or may not be impacted. And now we’ve got more news.
The Walt Disney Company is in the midst of some major layoffs right now. During a recent earnings call, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that thousands of jobs would be cut as the company works to cut costs.
The layoffs began in late March 2023, and several executives lost their jobs as a result. Those job cuts have meant that an entire division of the company was eliminated, and a couple of major projects have been scrapped. Disney has stated that these job cuts are part of a huge effort to cut $5.5 billion in spending, but one Marvel executive claims that there’s a different reason why Disney fired him. [Read more…]
The Walt Disney Company is going through some major job cuts right now, which were announced by CEO Bob Iger earlier this year during an earnings call.
Iger recently sent a memo to Disney employees announcing that the first of those job cuts would begin this week. We’ve already seen job cuts eliminate an entire division of the company, and the proposed Amazon Prime-type membership program has been scrapped as well. We’ve seen plenty of internal changes impacting Disney workers recently.
Not only is Disney moving forward with the Lake Nona project that will transplant thousands of employees from California to Florida, but the company is also undergoing a massive restructuring as Bob Iger refocuses the company’s priorities.
Many have wondered about the future of Disney since several major changes have taken place in the last few months.
One of those changes is the upcoming hiring freeze that former CEO Bob Chapek announced in early November. We found out later that month that Bob Iger planned to continue with the freeze, but we hadn’t heard anything since. Now, Iger has commented on the upcoming freeze and what it means for the company and its employees.
