Disney Experts Know Why ‘Moana’ Is The 2nd Lowest Grossing Live-Action Remake Behind ‘Snow White’

Moana is one of the most popular Disney movies of the past decade. The franchise has 1.5 billion hours streamed on Disney+, 22 million toys sold, and 26 billion music streams. The original film brought in a whopping $684 million at the worldwide box office, and its sequel crossed the $1 billion mark globally.

But despite the Wayfinder’s popularity, the new live-action Moana has only earned $43 million at the U.S. box office in its first weekend. For reference, the animated Moana earned $56 million in its opening weekend back in 2016, not adjusted for inflation. Since Moana is one of the most popular Disney characters of the past decade, why did the live-action remake flop?

This Is the BEST Disney Movie News We’ve Seen All Week!

I have one tradition every Halloween season that I follow, no matter what. I watch Hocus Pocus and Hocus Pocus 2 on repeat. I cannot get enough of the Sanderson Sisters. I even have a black cat named Thackery Binx, so it’s no secret that I’m a fan.

Well, you can imagine how excited I am to share the news with you that a third Hocus Pocus movie is in the works, according to Deadline, and it’s bringing back the Sanderson Sisters for one more fun adventure!

We Have a BIG Update About the Live-Action ‘Tangled’ Movie…And You’re Going To Love It

We hope you’re not tired of Disney’s live-action remakes of animated movies. We know that there are a lot of complaints about the live-action movies, and they’ve sometimes been big flops (Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, we’re looking at you), but sometimes Disney gets it JUST right (I will argue that the live-action Cinderella is even better than the animated film).

So we’ve been cautiously optimistic about a live-action Tangled movie, especially now that we know who has been cast as Rapunzel and Flynn Rider. However, maybe one of the most IMPORTANT roles in the movie may just be the villain, Mother Gothel. Well, the Internet KNEW who it wanted for the role, and it seems that the Internet just got its way: Kathryn Hahn is now confirmed as the live-action Tangled film’s villain!

We’ve Got Bad News About This Disney Live-Action Remake

What do you think of Disney’s live-action remakes? We know that’s a loaded question because there are a LOT of opinions out there about whether Disney should be converting its animated works into live-action movies.

Regardless of how you feel about live-action remakes, though, many have done very well for the company. The live-action Lilo & Stitch did so well at the box office that Disney decided to make a sequel. However, on the other side of the debate, the live-action Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs didn’t do well for the company. So it’s not always a sure bet that a live-action movie will be a hit at the box office. Well, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney has decided not to go down the live-action movie road for another film that it had live-action plans for: Robin Hood.
