New! Chocolate Beer Cupcake at Captain Cook’s in Disney World

Welp, it was bound to happen sometime…and I wish I was there to try it!!

We got the word from a couple of awesome readers this week that Captain Cook’s in Disney’s Polynesian Resort has introduced several new cupcakes, including a PB&J version and…a Chocolate Beer cupcake!!

Chocolate Beer Cupcake

Thanks to @Michaellburk for the awesome pics and his review:

The frosting is very good. Very malty, not too sweet. The cake itself, you could definitely taste the beer.

And thanks to DFB Guest Author @JoeyB586 for this review:

It was a very interesting flavor. The beer and chocolate flavors shared prominence, and it definitely had the taste and aftertaste of beer. The barley and hops taste was noticeable. It seemed like a bizarre combination of flavors. I’m glad I tried it, but it’s probably not something I would get again.

So there you have it!! Chocolate Beer Cupcake! This will likely be a temporary addition to Captain Cook’s, as they cycle through several [Read more…]

Epcot: Cupcakes Required = 4 Mini

Let’s begin in Epcot, where I’m so excited to share with you a really super fun find from Epcot’s America Pavilion.

American Adventure Gingerbread House
Within Liberty Inn, you’ll find another life-size gingerbread house, similar in scope to the Grand Floridian’s display. And much like that house, you can purchase goodies here as well!

American Adventure Gingerbread House Mini Cupcake Assortment: NEW THIS YEAR is a really fun treat that I couldn’t wait to try!

Rather than having one ginormous cake with just one flavor, the pastry chefs at Epcot are offering four different mini-cupcakes served together.

News! New Cupcakes Debut at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

I’m pretty excited that when I visit Disney World soon, I’ll have a chance to taste two brand new seasonal cupcakes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Also, coming in January, is an extravagant cupcake experience that’s worthy of a certain charismatic Captain we all know and love…;-) And judging from the descriptions, these are going to taste just as incredible as they look!

Pumpkin Mickey Cupcake

First up: a fun homage to fall with this cheerful Pumpkin Mickey Cupcake!

Pumpkin Cupcake with Maple Frosting, Candied Pecans, and Mickey Ears

Featuring a — what else? — pumpkin cake(!), this is topped with maple icing and garnished with sugared pecans.

Disney Christmas Cupcake

Once we’re done with the pumpkins, it will be time for Santa hats and such — and this fun Mickey Mouse-topped Christmas Cupcake!

Snack Series: Contempo Cafe Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake

Time for a great new Disney Cupcake addition to the Contempo Cafe bakery case in Disney World’s Contemporary Resort!

Our love for the Contempo’s Red Velvet Cupcake with its fantabulous cheesecake center, may be rivaled by this one!

Chocolate Peanut Butter Cupcake at Contempo Cafe

These cupcakes are pretty large — probably shareable if you’re the sharing type — and topped with a creamy, light frosting. Not quite whipped cream frosting — there’s definitely some heft — but close.

Once we went in for our cross-section shot, I was pleased to see the center of the cupcake stuffed with peanut butter filling. And, as expected from a Contempo Cafe cupcake, this wasn’t just more of that light frosting. This was real-life peanut butter filling — more like what you’d expect in a peanut butter [Read more…]

Snack Series: “Ice Cream Sundae” Cupcake at Main Street Bakery

Many of you know I just got back home TODAY from a trip to Walt Disney World! And while I was there I explored LOTS of new eats and treats to share with you.

But before I start tackling laundry, I couldn’t wait to showcase this little beauty…

Main Street Bakery's Ice Cream Sundae Cupcake

I know what you’re thinking — “Gosh, that looks an awful lot like a scoop of ice cream on top of a cupcake.” Yep — it sure does! But that, my friends, is a big ol’ ice cream scoop’s worth of FROSTING…yes indeed. Let’s take a closer look:

When I first walked into the Bakery (which I always do, because I want to see what fun new stuff they have), my eye was immediately drawn to these. All lined up in white and pink, they truly did look like [Read more…]

New! Pineapple Coconut Cupcake at Epcot’s Sunshine Seasons

Woo! You know we like to keep you updated on all of the snacks in Disney parks, and we love when readers send pics and updates to us when they’re in Disney World and Disneyland!

Thanks to Susan T. (who also found the fabulously popular King Cupcake at Pop Century), we’ve got a review of a brand new one!

Spotted inside Epcot’s Land pavilion at the Sunshine Seasons food court was a pineapple coconut cupcake. What a fun, summery treat! (We’ve also seen a pineapple coconut cupcake earlier this year in Disney’s Hollywood Studios.)

Pineapple Coconut Cupcake

Selling for $3.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit, this concoction has a creamy pineapple frosting, is topped with toasted coconut, and is garnished with 2 small pieces of fresh pineapple.

Susan informs us that it tastes like pineapple upside down cake, but with [Read more…]

If you know anything about us here at Disney Food Blog, then you know we are PASSIONATE about our Disney cupcakes! …That’s an understatement, actually…since we’ve even created our very own 2011 and 2012 Disney Cupcake Crawls!

Well, today, I bring you the most beea-utiful “infographic” that I have EVER set my eyes on. Why so lovely, you ask? Because it’s ALL ABOUT CUPCAKES. DISNEY cupcakes, to be specific. Take a look…

Review: Chocolate Raspberry Cupcake in Epcot

I don’t go to Sunshine Seasons in Epcot nearly enough. (This is true of everyone pretty much, right? ;-) )

This great spot is smack in the middle of the Land pavilion in Epcot, and offers some of the best counter service food in all of Walt Disney World. This includes some very unique desserts, and anytime I DO visit I can’t resist trying out a few new treats. Today: the Chocolate Raspberry Cupcake…

Chocolate Raspberry Cupcake

This is what I would call an “attractive” cupcake (minus the condensation droplets…sorry about that…). Colorful Mickey sprinkles and dark chocolate curls, thick pink buttercream frosting, chocolate cake — admit it; you’d fall for it, too. But let’s get down to the review of what’s inside!

As my friend and I took initial bites, we debated whether the frosting (I always start with the frosting) was actually [Read more…]

Clearly, we’re talking about cupcakes here! We’ve got two completely different snacks to consider from Captain Cook’s Snack Company at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, and you may have just chosen which one will be your first choice the next time you’re in Disney World! Those adjectives perfectly describe the snacks I’m about to review…

Both cupcakes — Chocolate Macadamia and Lemon Ginger — sell for $3.99 or a Disney Dining Plan snack credit. Perfectly fitting with the South Seas ambiance (of COURSE the South Seas have cupcakes!!!), these new flavors capture the essence of the tropics!

Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cupcake

OK, forgive the photo backgrounds — I had this cupcake balanced on my suitcase as I was checking out of the hotel! Still, I think the lighting is pretty fun… . Anyway, this thing tastes as good as it looks, I promise.

Artfully arranged macadamia nut slices hint at the fabulousness inside! I mean really, doesn’t that look like a mini mosaic?

Chocolate Cupcake Undressed

And you can see the piles of chocolate on top. Sometimes that dark chocolate frosting can be gummy or plastic-y, but in this case, it was just plain luxe. Creamy — [Read more…]

Snack Series: Contempo Cafe Red Velvet Cupcake

One of our favorite counter-service joints, Contempo Cafe, has perfected another yummo cupcake that I can’t wait to tell you about!

Previously, we’ve shared our reviews of the Apple Spice, Chocoalte Peppermint, Dulce de Leche, and Black Forest cupcakes here at Contempo, and now we’ve got a version of my very favorite cake in the world — the Red Velvet cupcake!

You can find this snack in the bakery case at Contempo Cafe in Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Walt Disney World. Just bypass the ordering machines and head right to the cupcakes!

Red Velvet Cupcake

Once again, this cupcake sports the lighter-than-lard frosting common to most Contempo Cafe cupcakes. It’s not as light as a whipped cream frosting, but it is definitely [Read more…]
