The legacy of Walt Disney is built on the foundation of animation and film. While we love the theme parks, they would be an empty shell without the movies to fill them!
Today we are going to go through every, that’s right EVERY, sequel, live-action remake, and reboot Disney is scheduled to make in the foreseeable future. Buckle up it’s going to be a fun one!
Sequels
Avatar 2-5
The first set of sequels will have you saying, “Sivako!” Disney has scheduled not one but four more installments of the Avatar franchise. If you’re thinking “Didn’t the first one come out like…a decade ago? What gives?!” you’re not alone. This has been a loooong time in the works.
Get ready for a long ride on your banshee because the first of these sequels will be released in December 2022 and come out every other year until the finale is released in December of 2028!

TRON: Ares
The next sequel in the works will be in a tight race to release before its ride is finally completed. That’s right, TRON has a sequel in the works and it will be the third installment of the franchise, TRON: Ares. This film has been in the discussion for nearly a decade with a lot of creative changes and it’s still shrouded in mystery.
All kidding aside we cannot wait to finally ride TRON Lightcycle Run and this sequel makes us even more excited.

Aladdin Sequel (Live Action)
Yes, we know Genie has been in the headlines for different reasons recently (looking at you Genie+), but you can get excited to know there will be a follow-up to the popular live-action remake of Aladdin!
Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich are back in the producer seats for this sequel and hope to bring back the original cast Will Smith, Mena Massoud, and Naomi Scott, but nothing is official, yet.

Cruella 2
The most stylish villain around is coming back for some more revenge! Disney already has a sequel on the books for Cruella and Emma Stone has signed on to reprise her role!
The director and writer of Cruella, Craig Gillespie and Tony McNamara, are also set to reprise their positions on the sequel. And the hope is that Joel Fry and Paul Walter Hauser as Jasper and Horace will sign on as well.

Jungle Book 2
Forget about your worries and your strife, Jon Favreau is returning to direct the sequel to the very successful live-action Jungle Book remake. Neel Sethi is also returning to reprise the role of Mowgli.
This live-action sequel was announced back in 2016, but we haven’t seen much progress and we know Jon Favreau has been busy directing The Mandalorian. And though it’s been confirmed that Neel Sethi plans to revive Mowgli in the next film, there are some other big names that we haven’t heard about, like Bill Murray, Idris Elba, Christopher Walken, and Scarlett Johansson, who all contributed their vocal talents in the first iteration of the live-action classic. Given that Scarlett Johansson and Disney are still at odds over the Black Widow flick, it will be interesting to see if her character (Kaa) returns in the sequel.

Pirates of the Caribbean (6th installment)
Dead men tell no tales, but Disney has always told us the best pirate stories! While there is no confirmed release date yet, Disney is working on a sequel (a 6th-uel?) to the fan-favorite Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. There is a good amount of ambiguity around this film, who is in it, and what to expect, will we get to see our favorite pirate, Captain Jack Sparrow, savvy?
This addition is still surrounded by rumors. No one really knows when it will be released, who will be in it, or what it’s even about. The rumor is that Disney is hoping for a female-driven story, and fans are eager to suggest Redd, the newly established female buccaneer in the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction, to have a shot. But right now, all we really know is that Disney selected Craig Mazin and Ted Elliott to write the film.

Disenchanted
Get ready to take a trip back to Andalasia for another adventure with Giselle! Amy Adams will reprise her role as Giselle alongside Patrick Dempsey in the sequel to Enchanted. This sequel is already in the works and is slated to release in 2022.
Coming directly to Disney+ this film will bring back all of our favorite characters and introduce us to some new ones!

Hollywood Stargirl
Fans of the 2020 Disney+ romantic drama Stargirl are in luck! Disney has announced a sequel to the movie that will release in 2022. Grace VanderWaal will reprise her role as Stargirl and it will be released exclusively on Disney+.
National Treasure 3
The highly anticipated sequel to National Treasure, produced by Jerry Bruckheimer and headlined by Nicolas Cage, is back on the table after being talked about on and off since 2008. There still is no release date, but we can’t wait to get into more antics with Ben Gates!
And if you can’t get enough historic suspense entertainment, you’re in luck! A National Treasure series in the works for Disney+.

Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness
Now it’s time to hop into the comic books. That’s right, time to go through all the confirmed Marvel sequels on the horizon starting with Dr. Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. WandaVision and Loki on Disney+ captured our hearts, and we cannot wait to see what, if any, roles that Elizabeth Olsen and Tom Hiddleston play in this new MCU addition.
Benedict Cumberbatch will reprise his role as Dr. Strange and the movie will release on March 25th, 2022.
Thor: Love and Thunder
We may have lost Cap and Iron Man, but we can always count on the God of Thunder! Thor returns in, Thor: Love and Thunder, which is set to hit screens on May 6th, 2022. Chris Hemsworth, Tessa Thompson, and Natalie Portman are all set to reprise their roles from the previous movies.
And those aren’t the only big names in this flick! Melissa McCarthy, Christian Bale, and Russell Crowe will also be joining the MCU!
Black Panther: Wakanda Forever
Wakanda Forever! We are still heartbroken over the loss of Chadwick Boseman, our king, but are curious and excited to see what Marvel does with the Black Panther series. This sequel is set to be released on July 8th, 2022.
The rest of the Wakandan royalty will return to the silver screen, and we’re excited to see who will take up the Black Panther mantle.

The Marvels
While this may not initially appear to be a sequel, this is actually the sequel to Captain Marvel. Brie Larson will reprise her role as Captain Marvel. This movie will also serve as our introduction to Kamala Khan, also known as Ms. Marvel. The film has been scheduled to release on November 11th, 2022.
And if you enjoyed WandaVision, you’ll probably like this flick — it was penned by the same storyteller, Megan McDonnell
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3
Everyone’s favorite group of misfits is set to return on May 5th, 2023, and we cannot wait. This film is set to be a crossover/sequel to Thor: Love and Thunder. After Avengers: Endgame we could not wait to see more scenes between Thor and Starlord and finally find out who is the captain of the ship!
Whether it’s Starlord or the Angel/Pirate, as Drax so profoundly identified Thor, as either option will provide some solid silver screen fun!
Ant-man and the Wasp: Quantumania
Now, it’s time to leave the galaxy and head to the quantum universe with Scott Lang! The third film in the Ant-man series has already started filming and we can expect to see our little hero on the big screen on February 17, 2023.
As much as we love seeing our favorite tiny heroes, we’re also super excited to see Michael Peña return, as well!
Captain America Sequel
Recently, Anthony Mackie confirmed he would be reprising his role of Captain America as introduced on the Falcon and the Winter Soldier, and after being exposed to “fake Cap” we couldn’t be more relieved.
Deadpool Sequel
Everyone rejoiced to hear that the “Merc with a Mouth” is coming back for another (third!) sequel even with Disney purchasing Fox. The highly anticipated sequel to Deadpool doesn’t have a release date yet but we are hoping to get one soon!
You likely won’t see this flick in the family-friendly Disney+ library, but if you’re a fan of Deadpool, keep an eye out!
Indiana Jones Sequel
Grab your whip and your fedora and get ready for our last sequel adventure! Harrison Ford will be reprising his role as Indiana Jones and we can expect this one to hit theaters on July 29, 2022.
Nothing has leaked about the plot of this fifth film, but we do know that John Williams will be providing the musical score, so it will definitely give us those solid Indy vibes!

Lion King Prequel (Live-Action)
Barry Jenkins is said to have been tapped to take up the mantle as director from Jon Favreau on this flick! The new Lion King prequel is set to hit screens on August 12th, 2022.
The plot should follow a young Mufasa and his brother Taka — who we later know as Scar.

Live-Action Remakes
Peter Pan and Wendy
Off to Neverland! We start off our journey of live-action remakes with an adventure to make us feel young again, with Peter Pan & Wendy! We can expect to get a good dose of pixie dust when this movie comes out in 2022 straight to Disney+.
The title roles of Peter Pan and Wendy will be played by newcomer Alexander Molony and Ever Anderson, who you might recognize as playing the young Natasha Romanoff in the Black Widow film.
Pinocchio
Disney announced the Pinocchio live-action remake back in April of 2015. We are here to tell you their noses didn’t grow at all since that announcement. Things have just moved slowly due to a change in director in 2019. Robert Zemeckis is now directing the live-action remake that has Tom Hanks playing Geppetto.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarves
The first princess movie on our list is none other than the fairest one of all, Snow White! Disney has cast Rachel Zegler as Snow White in the upcoming remake and it is scheduled to be released on November 4th, 2022.
The Little Mermaid
From the forest with the woodland creatures to all the way under the sea. The next movie in the works is The Little Mermaid. Halle Bailey has been cast to play Ariel and she is set to get her legs on April 8th, 2022!
Bambi
The next set of movies have all been confirmed but do not have a release date. Bambi is the first one up and, similar to the Jungle Book and Lion King live-action remakes, it will use the same CGI technology to make the movie look photo-realistic.
Hercules
Go from zero to hero with this next movie. We are going to get a Hercules live-action remake! The best part is that it will be produced by the Russo brothers. If you aren’t familiar they are responsible for directing Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame.
We can’t wait to see what they do for The Muses!
Hunchback of Notre Dame
The next live-action remake is set to be produced by none other than Disney legend Josh Gad (you might know him as a lovable snowman named Olaf!). There is no set release date for The Hunchback of Notre Dame, but per an update from Gad on Twitter, we are getting “Closer and Closer”. We can only wonder what’s next out there!
Lilo and Stitch
“Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind.” What kind of Ohana would Disney be if they didn’t give us a Lilo and Stitch live-action remake?! It has been announced and in development since 2018 and will be filmed in Hawaii. There were some delays due to the pandemic, but we hope to have some updates soon!
Robin Hood
The next live-action remake will be heading straight to Disney+, but has us saying “oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally, golly what a day!” Carlos Estrada will be directing the Robin Hood live-action remake and we can’t wait for it!
The Sword in the Stone
What does Game of Thrones and the new Sword in the Stone remake have in common? They both have the same writer, Bryan Cogman! This new live-action remake is the last on our list and was announced back in 2018. We can’t wait to see what this one is like!

Reboots
Home Sweet, Home Alone
Disney is set to reboot some popular franchises in the coming years and one of those is right around the corner. The Home Alone franchise has a Disney+ reboot coming and it is starring Ellie Kemper and Kenan Thompson. It will not follow everyone’s favorite abandoned child Kevin, but instead, a kid named Max played by Archie Yates. We will get to see this one on November 12th, 2021!
Haunted Mansion
There’s no turning back now… the wheels are finally turning for a remake of the Haunted Mansion movie. Tiffany Haddish is in talks to lead in the new film for what is sure to be a hilarious take on the original featuring Eddie Murphy. In the meantime, we cannot wait for the Muppets and Haunted Mansion mashup coming to Disney+ this Fall!
Blade
This next remake seems to be a little more up in the air. The Blade reboot was announced in 2019 and confirmed that Mahershala Ali would be playing everyone’s favorite vampire hunter. However, in Marvel’s Phase 4 trailer announcement it was mysteriously left off. It was initially thought to debut in the fall of 2023 but fans are now waiting on an update to see what is going on.
Fantastic 4
We are nearing the seven-year mark since the last Fantastic 4 reboot, so naturally, it’s time for another, right? Due to Marvel’s acquisition of Fox, it is now Disney’s turn to take a swing at the popular comic book series and intertwine it with the expansive MCU that now exists. We are really hoping that the fifth time’s a charm… .
West Side Story
Last on our list is another film that we will be able to enjoy later this year, West Side Story. Starring Rachel Zegler and directed by Steven Spielberg is the new film adaptation of West Side Story. We can’t wait for this new take on a classic that will debut on the big screen on December 10th, 2021.
Alright, that does it! That is EVERY sequel/prequel/adaptation that Disney is scheduled to make as of right now. Even though a lot of these projects could change at any moment, we will keep you posted on all of it along the way! Stay tuned to DFB for all the Disney movie updates.
