Fantasmic! might be Disneyland’s most popular nighttime show, but right now, it’s on hiatus.
The show was put on a hiatus earlier this year when the Maleficent dragon caught fire. Disneyland has indicated that the show will return in spring 2024. In the meantime, Disney announced that a new show will take its place while Fantasmic! is gone.
The new show is called “The Heartbeat of New Orleans — A Living Mural.” The show, which debuts on September 29th, is “set to a dynamic jazz score” and will feature projections on the Rivers of America following the story of a “mischievous little frog from the bayou that leaps into the lively heartbeat of New Orleans when he is lured by the jazzy sounds he hears in the distance.”
The show will feature original animated artwork by Disney Live Entertainment graphic designer Marcella “Marci” Swett, who has also done some fabulous chalk art in Downtown Disney during the resort’s Celebrate Soulfully event. This nighttime show, along with the previously announced Queenie and the Jambalaya Jazz Band, will both appear on the Rivers of America on select nights throughout the fall. Both shows will also run during the holiday season.
So, if you’re headed to Disneyland this fall and winter, be sure to check out the new entertainment. Don’t forget that Disneyland’s newest restaurant, Tiana’s Palace, has just opened, too, if you want to keep the New Orleans vibe rolling. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure is also under construction in Critter Country — the new attraction is set to open in late 2024.
We’ll also be keeping an eye out for a reopening date for Fantasmic! Stay tuned to DFB for more!
