Raise your hand if you are a Star Wars fan! 🙋♀️
Yep, me too! The Star Wars franchise has done what many other movie franchises have not dared to do. It has become a worldwide phenomenon since the 1980s, and it doesn’t seem to be stopping. Since Disney purchased Lucasfilm, they have continued to grow the story by creating more full-length feature movies and TV series on Disney+. We’re certainly not mad about it as we sit and watch Grogu learn and grow. And it turns out that a galaxy far, far away isn’t the only place that gets to have DROIDS!
We’ve seen these cute and entertaining little wandering droids out and about in Disneyland at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. They’ve roamed around Batuu interacting with us, but Disney has only shared that they are testing the concept out and that they may or may not return.
Turns out, these little guys are coming back to Batuu, and SOON! At a Walt Disney Imagineering media event, we learned that these BDX Droids will be back in Galaxy’s Edge in Disneyland from April 5th through June 2nd during the Season of the Force! You can find them at various locations around Black Spire Outpost throughout the day.
We learned that the droids are controlled with a two joystick controller. They are able to be trained through “reinforcement learning.” We’re no psychologists, but that sounds very similar to how humans learn! The droids even have to learn how to walk. They go through balance simulations so they can walk around the parks. The Imagineers have the robots go over ramps where they “teeter totter” back and forth until they “learn” how to balance. How cool is that?!
The droids will also interacting with you in the parks. They have lights in their eyes that they can turn on and then they’ll move their heads up and down so they can “scan you.” It’s a lot of fun!
The Season of the Force is a special event that is taking over Disneyland from April 5th through June 2nd. Special Star Wars experiences will be happening including a new nighttime fireworks show, Hyperspace Mountain will once again be joining Disneyland, special merchandise, and more! Star Tours will also be debuting an all-new ride show starting on April 5th.
The Season of the Force seems like the most appropriate time for these little droids to be making their appearance again. If you’re in Black Spire over the next couple of months, keep your eyes peeled for the droids and other Star Wars characters.
