Please welcome DFB guest chef Carol E.! She’s tempting us this week with a delicious Crème Brûlée recipe from Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. So, let’s dig in…
My husband and I love exploring Disney restaurants since we are lucky enough to have Walt Disney World in our backyard. On one of my birthdays, he surprised me with dinner at Narcoossee’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa!
I can still remember the taste of the real vanilla bean in the crème brûlée! It was so rich and creamy. Nothing like anything I had ever tasted. The perfect ending to the perfect meal!
I want to share with you that wonderful memory of crème brûlée filled with the taste of fresh vanilla bean and topped off with a lot of Disney magic!
I found the actual recipe from the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in the Cooking with Mickey and the Disney Chefs cookbook.
Before we get started, I do want to warn you that this is a plan ahead recipe. You need at least 3-4 hours in the fridge, but better if left in overnight before serving.
I have never made crème brûlée before, so at the end of the recipe below, I posted a few extra notes that may help you if this is your first time making it, too. By the way, this is my first and only batch so far, and it turned out perfect!
Let’s get started! Here’s your shopping list:
Ingredients — Makes 8 Servings
-2 Cups Heavy Cream
-1/2 Cup Milk
-1 Cup Sugar Plus a 1/4 cup for Sprinkling
-2 Vanilla Beans
-6 Large Egg Yolks
Instructions
-Preheat the oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.
-Take 2 bowls and separate 6 egg yolks from the whites. Place the egg yolks in the large mixing bowl. Set mixing bowl aside. (Keep the egg whites to make a fantastic egg white omelet tomorrow.) 🙂
-Take 2 Vanilla Bean pods and cut in half lengthwise with a very sharp knife. Scrape seeds with the tip of the knife.
-In a 2 quart saucepan, bring the heavy cream, milk, sugar, vanilla beans and vanilla bean seeds just to a boil over medium heat. Mix all of these items together, but don’t [Read more…]

It’s become more and more commonplace for Disney parks to introduce similar new food items on BOTH coasts — case in point: Red’s Apple Freeze at Cozy Cone Motel and Le Fou’s Brew at Gaston’s Tavern.
And it’s happened again now that Disney World’s Downtown Disney is serving another big Disneyland hit — Chili Cone Queso!
Introduced first at the Cozy Cone Motel in Disney California Adventure’s Cars Land at its landmark opening in 2012, the Chili Cone Queso — along with other savory food-in-a-cone options — has been delighting Disneyland Resort visitors.
Once they order the Chili Cone Queso, diners discover a meaty chili topped with shredded cheese and corn chips all tucked into a hand-held, thick bread cone.
Now, Marketplace Snacks in Downtown Disney Orlando offers the same “cone”-coction along with a Meatball Cone version as well. Some would say that this is just the long-awaited return of the “handwich” to [Read more…]
A few years back, I attended what I’d consider to be the most awesome dining experience of my life — eating dinner inside of one of my very favorite Disneyland attractions.
That’s right folks, I got to eat dinner INSIDE the Haunted Mansion. Dubbed the “Ghostly Retreat,” this special Club 33 event honoring Marc Davis was truly incredible (see details at the end of this post).

We starting hearing from our DFB Readers about these brand new Dumbo themed souvenir popcorn buckets in Disney World’s New Fantasyland last week, and I couldn’t wait to see them!
Found in Magic Kingdom’s Storybook Circus, these are unlike any other souvenir containers we’ve ever seen.
Usually, souvenir containers are, themselves, filled with popcorn. But it looks like these are just “carrying cases” for a regular box of Disney popcorn.
Nonetheless, they’re great looking. And once the popcorn is gone, it looks like a handle comes up and you’re able to use the bucket as a little [Read more…]

Join us in celebrating our updated e-Book — The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World® Dining 2013 — as we share fun and useful info from the guide!
As many of you know, room service is available at Disney’s deluxe resorts as well as the moderate resort, Coronado Springs. Yet, for those guests staying at value, most moderate, and select villa resorts, you’ll have to fetch your meal from the quick-service restaurant or order pizza delivery!
Disney resorts with In-Room Pizza Delivery include: All-Star Movies, All-Star Music, All-Star Sports, Caribbean Beach Resort, Old Key West, Pop Century Resort, Port Orleans Resort French Quarter, Port Orleans Resort Riverside, and Saratoga Springs Resort. Note that deluxe resorts and Coronado Springs often offer pizza options on their room service menus as well — so you can pretty much get some sort of in-room dining pizza anywhere you stay in Disney World.
In addition to pizza delivery, Disney’s Art of Animation, does have a few room service entree options after 4pm like pasta and Buffalo chicken wings/nuggets!
Disney Dining Plan pizza delivery meals consist of two non-alcoholic beverages, 1 pizza entree, and two desserts, which will cost two DDP table-service credits. This charge is per meal rather than per person.
Payment is made via cash, credit card, or your Disney room charge. Gratuities are included!
Just a quick note for those planning on pizza in your room at your Disney resort. The options we’ve mentioned above are all Disney-run pizza delivery options through the resorts’ dining systems and restaurants. The menus for these delivery options will be in your room on a cardboard placard with Disney logos when you arrive.
However, for years now guests have been receiving flimsy paper flyers for [Read more…]

It’s time to talk about a restaurant that hasn’t yet been on Disney Food Blog! (GASP!!)
Time to try out lunch at a Cap’n Jack’s! I’ve been to this spot twice now, and even though it will likely disappear at some point in the next few years with the Downtown Disney / Disney Springs renovation, I still need to tell you about it so that you can run over and get in a meal before it’s too late! 🙂
Looking every inch the waterside Florida seafood restaurant, Cap’n Jack’s is located at Downtown Disney Marketplace and sits right atop a pier overlooking Village Lake. You’re so close to the water that you’ll feel like you’re floating!
Recently, I stopped into Cap’n Jack’s for lunch with a friend. My previous visit wasn’t great, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. Will it be hit or miss? Time to find out!
If you have ever been to a waterside seafood restaurant in your favorite beach resort town, Cap’n Jack’s will at once seem a bit familiar. Housed next to the Downtown Disney Marina, it’s a classic seafood spot!
And that sense of history that you feel isn’t purely Disney magic. This restaurant has actually been around since 1975 when Buena Vista Shopping Center — now Downtown Disney Marketplace — originally opened. In Disney terms, that’s a seriously long time!
Within the restaurant, you’ll find fairly standard seating, low ceilings, and wooden floors. This feels like the family-owned seafood restaurant that you’ve been visiting for years.
One thing you typically won’t find at Cap’n Jack’s is [Read more…]

Um, this is pretty awesome.
I was gonna put up a post about cupcakes today, but this took precedence. And you’ll see why when you check out the prices. This weekend only, DisneyStore.com is offering a 25% off sale on all items that are already…on SALE! Yeah, so that means you get even more monies off of what are already discounted goodies.
Here’s the story:
Speaking of pie, there are some really great on-sale-even-more items that might remind you of our favorite thing — Disney food! Let’s take a look at a few…
Let’s start off with a serious MEGA DEAL!! The Disney Princess Kitchen Playset, which you know your kid would love, but which costs one meeeeelion dollars, is big time on sale.
Originally about $160, you can get it today with the extra 25% off code for $37!! I’m a bit shocked on that one, frankly. It’s worth it to get this thing and store it in the garage until Christmas for that price.
Next up, this uber chic Snow White Poison Apple Watch!
Again, another great deal. Originally $70, you can now get it for just [Read more…]
