Sometimes, even the tiniest Disney World transportation issue can have huge repercussions on a Disney World trip, especially if you’re not familiar with the transportation specifics of your hotel.
Disney Bus
For example, you should always know if your Walt Disney World hotel features an internal bus route.
As air travel becomes more expensive — and at least in perception — less safe, some younger travelers are re-embracing bus ridership as an alternative.

As a slew of price increases, baggage policy changes, and high-profile accidents have caused bad press for the aviation industry over the last couple of years, numbers have steadily risen for commercial bus transportation. According to a spokesperson for FlixBus (the parent company of Greyhound), “ridership across the Greyhound and FlixBus network grew by a double-digit percentage year-over-year” in 2024. This is “compared to 2023, continuing an upward trend.”
Disney World is huge as it is home to four theme parks, two water parks, a shopping and dining district, over 25 hotels, and so much more.
Welcome to Disney World!
All of this may sound overwhelming, and if you are worried about getting around the resort, Disney World provides free transportation for guests staying at their resorts as well as for those looking to park hop. While we have a few gripes with Disney World transportation (we are looking at you, TTC!), we are really starting to wonder when Disney World will fix the limited transportation options to Animal Kingdom as well as some of their resorts.
If you’ve been following along with us at DisneyFoodBlog, you might have gotten the impression that we have a personal vendetta against Disney World buses. And I get it.
Disney Bus
It feels like we’re always out here waving our caution flag, warning you about all the potential pitfalls of relying on those iconic (and free!) Disney buses for your transportation needs. But here’s the kicker: We actually like the Disney World buses!

EPCOT monorail
Depending on where you’re staying and where you’re going, there are half a dozen different methods of transportation for getting around Disney World. Some of them are fan favorites, while others are not as beloved. And perhaps the most controversial of them all is the Disney World buses.
There is a new arrival at Disney World! It may not seem like a big deal compared to the opening of CommuniCore Hall and Plaza or the closure of Test Track, but we are HUGE fans of this new arrival.
Bus Depot
The Disney World Transportation system is extensive and efficient. You can get almost anywhere on Disney World property utilizing a combination of buses, monorails, gondolas, boats, and trams. Disney World has been debuting new buses over the past few months, and we were excited to spot another new bus wrap!

Disney’s Contemporary Resort
That said, not all hotels are created equal, and depending on your party, certain hotels might not be the right fit. We tend to avoid these three hotels, and here is why.

Polynesian
Since Disney opened up their first true hotels with Walt Disney World’s Contemporary and Polynesian Village in 1971 — The Disneyland Hotel does technically predate them, but has a twisting backstory that involves not being owned by Disney until the mid-1980s — staying on Disney property has become an integral part of Disney vacation experience for millions at each of the company’s resorts around the world. Transportation to and from the parks can be a ride in itself! You can hop aboard a Skyliner gondola and take in the views of Disney World from above. You might find yourself in an adorably wrapped Disney bus. Regardless of how you get to the park, different modes of transportation operate at different times so we wanted to give you an overview of all the transportation options available at Disney World!
