Last week, Disney announced that the company is partnering — as it has done for many years in various ways — with Second Harvest Food Bank to distribute Disney’s donation of excess food during the closures in order to help serve local communities in Central Florida and in Orange County. As part of the efforts to mitigate the spread of the Coronavirus, new policies are being put in to effect immediately in Orlando and throughout the state of Florida with the goal of reducing the number of people gathering in bars and restaurants.
Currently, the four Walt Disney World theme parks (and both water parks) are temporarily closed as part of the efforts to promote safety due to concerns over the Coronavirus. However, following closure of the parks, select areas of the Resort remained in service of guests during a transitional phase.
As the Resort went through its closing phases, we continually updated this post daily as various parts of the Resort begin their temporary closures, and we are keeping it current at this time. Here is an at-a-glance list of the status of Disney World operations.
Walt Disney World Resort Hotels
Guests who will be at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel over the next few days before the hotels are closed on March 20, 2020 at 5:00 PM due to concerns over the Coronavirus will want to be advised of some additional changes which will also take place this week.
According to the Walt Disney World website, “All Disney transportation will be suspended beginning the morning of Wednesday, March 18, 2020 through the end of the month.” (Please note that Disney’s Magical Express will continue to transport guests to and from the airport through March 20.) Disney has announced a date for the temporary closure of the dining, shopping, and entertainment districts of Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort in light of concerns over the Coronavirus.
Disney will close all of its owned and operated locations at Disney Springs in Walt Disney World and the Downtown Disney District in Disneyland Resort effective Tuesday, March 17, 2020. [Read more…]
Disneyland has officially closed until the end of the month (and we miss it already!).
However, Downtown Disney is open for guests already in Disneyland to dine and shop while they relax! But, along with the change in operating hours in Downtown Disney, one of our favorite ice cream shops is tweaking their schedule too!
With Disney World closing due to the Coronavirus, the Disney is doing everything they can to help guests with their vacations during this time.
As Tigger would say, it’s time to bid Disneyland a “ta ta for now”! The parks will be closing their gates through the end of the month as a precaution for the Coronavirus outbreak.
While you can’t snack on a park churro or Dole Whip for the time being, you can still add some extra pixie dust to your day by visiting Downtown Disney! While the shopping and dining area won’t be closing just yet, there are a few changes coming soon.
