In 2024, I had a really bizarre restaurant experience in Disney World.
Big River Grille
As one of the reporters on our team, I visit restaurants around Disney World frequently to do dining reviews, and in January 2024, I was tasked with going to Big River Grille on the BoardWalk. At the time, this was a rather under-the-radar spot that wasn’t often talked about, so I was eager to experience it for myself. But imagine my surprise when the restaurant shut down within a week of my visit!
There are a lot of exciting things happening in Disney World in 2024, but one thing we are especially looking forward to is the new restaurant coming to Disney’s BoardWalk.

The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers is scheduled to open in early 2024, when it will serve items for brunch, lunch, and dinner featuring both sweet and savory menus, as well as an afternoon tea service. While the restaurant was originally supposed to open in 2023, the project was delayed — but the dining location is currently making one big step toward opening.

There are all kinds of bars in Disney World already — you can visit Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto for an exciting island-themed experience, head over to Wine Bar George to check out a wine list curated by Master Sommelier George Miliotes, or even visit the AbracadaBar for an evening filled with magic tricks and artistic cocktails. If you’ve visited Disney’s BoardWalk, you’ve probably visited or at least heard of Trattoria al Forno, a restaurant that specializes in Italian cuisine and even has a giant pizza oven where visitors can see the food being prepared. (There’s even a spot where you can walk up and grab some pizza — quick-service style!)

The BoardWalk is a fan-favorite area at Disney World, as it’s curated to feel like a vintage New England boardwalk while still having subtle elements of Disney magic. It’s gone under quite a lot of construction lately to allow for new additions as well as refurbishments. This week, Trattoria al Forno will close for the same reason!

Tea time at the Grand Flo!
Afternoon Tea used to be a staple at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort, where guests would visit the Garden View Tea Room to indulge in different flavors of tea, savory snacks, and miniature desserts. But the tea room has been closed for a couple of YEARS now, so where can you go for an Afternoon Tea experience in Disney World?
