Hey, you all! We’re back with another DFB Video today, and we’re discussing the Top 5 Disney World Resorts in terms of our favorite topic: FOOD!
When you think of food at Disney World, perhaps your mind goes to the parks first. Maybe iconic snacks like the Magic Kingdom’s Citrus Swirl come to mind, or fun and unique in-park dining experiences like Sci-Fi Dine In at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. But I’m telling you, there is a LOT of terrific eating to do outside the parks in the Disney World Resorts, and we’re talking today about our top five Resorts in regards to dining experiences. And remember, thanks to Disney Transportation, you don’t need to be staying at a Resort to check out the restaurants or snacks at any given spot. So settle in, and enjoy our latest DFB Video to learn more! [Read more…]
Hey Guys! We’re back with another DFB Video today, and we’re checking out the BEST Disney World Resorts!
There is a LOT to consider when you’re planning your Disney World vacation… and at the top of the list is where to stay! Disney World has no shortage of beautifully themed Resorts to choose from. And while they all have their own style of Disney magic, we’d like to share our favorites with you today! [Read more…]
Okay, so YES, we are checking out something called the “Big Kahuna” at the Polynesian Village Resort.
But — before we get your hopes up — we’re talking today about the Big Kahuna SANDWICH at Captain Cook’s. Sadly, the Big Kahuna Breakfast has not returned to the menu at Kona Cafe.
Still, taken on its own, the Big Kahuna Sandwich deserves a look in its own right. I mean, anything called the Big Kahuna Sandwich should be able to measure up to its name, right?
That’s what we’re here to find out!
The Big Kahuna Sandwich consists of turkey, ham, salami, roast beef, Swiss cheese, lettuce and tomato with a red pepper spread, all tucked into focaccia bread. The $11.29 entree comes with a pile of French Fries.
Looking at it from the top, it does indeed take up a lot of the box. (These takeaway styles have been in use for some time now at Captain Cook’s, replacing the standard Disney Parks plates for many dishes, and they are obviously terrific for transporting your meal.)

I know I do. And now there’s a new extra ticket dining event you can add to your trip on the Highway in the Sky… the Highway in the Sky Dine Around!

Aloha, cousins! Welcome to Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort!
The Polynesian is known for its delicious food, fireworks views and impeccable theming. Captain Cook’s is a lesser-known, tropical counter-service restaurant just a happy stop away from the Magic Kingdom, and it’s home to a few favorites including a budget-friendly version of Kona Cafe’s Tonga Toast! Captain Cook’s is the sole counter service at the Poly, and it’s chock full of tasty treats.
Since its renovation in 2014, the famed Pineapple Dole Whip moved outside to the Pineapple Lanai and the restaurant got a refresh of the menu as well. Now, we’re seeing even more new items on the Captain Cook’s docket!

Now, don’t get me wrong, Trader Sam’s… you’re pretty great. You are. But long before you and your wacky hijinks set up camp at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, there was (and still is!) a little place we know and love called the Tambu Lounge.
Outside of ‘Ohana itself (Tambu’s next door neighbor, located upstairs in the Great Ceremonial House), this is the only place you can get ‘Ohana Bread Pudding, which just so happens to be #OnTheList this week!
Now, for those of you who haven’t had ‘Ohana Bread Pudding, I put this little video together to give you an idea of how I, personally, feel about this dessert. (You’re gonna want to turn on your sound for this to get the full effect of my feelings.)

I’ll just give you a minute.
OK, I’m pretty sure you don’t even need to read the rest of this post to be convinced to put this on your list, but I’ll write it anyway just in case. ;-D
Tambu Lounge has a few other items on their list of “Greatest Hits,” of course. [Read more…]

Who’s ready for some TONGA TOAST?!
Really, is there a better way you can think of to start the day than with this Disney World breakfast staple? Of course, you can only find it at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but fortunately it’s available in not one, but TWO, locations there: Kona Cafe and Captain Cook’s. (Oh, and just so we’re clear before moving any further, for those who have noticed Tonga Toast on the menu for breakfast at Rainforest Cafe, it’s totally not the same thing.)
Today we’ll be enjoying Captain Cook’s version (as well as discussing the differences from the way it’s served up at Kona Cafe). But no matter where you go to grab your Tonga Toast, you’re just one Monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom, making Tonga Toast a must-have breakfast tradition for many Disney World guests regardless of their chosen Resort.
Now, it’s no secret that a LOT of changes have taken place at the Polynesian Village Resort with its Extreme Resort Makevoer ;). Now that the dust has just about settled (in the Great Ceremonial House, anyway), let’s take a quick look around first!
As mentioned, you can order Tonga Toast at two Polynesian Village Resort restaurants, and if you’re arriving via bus or car, you’ll need to make your way past the entrance into the Polynesian Village Resort lobby. If it’s been a while since you’ve seen the entrance unsurrounded by refurbishment walls on one — if not two — sides, here’s what it (along with some general landscaping) looks like these days.
We’ve visited the updated lobby previously, but here’s another few glances at the new look. [Read more…]
