Earlier today, Disney executives spoke out on their financial status amidst the closures and answered questions regarding the future of the company.

CEO Bob Chapek and CFO Christine McCarthy announced Shanghai Disneyland will open later this month, but when asked about when Disney’s other experiences (like cruises) will resume, they were much less certain.
Today, Disney’s Chief Medical Officer Dr. Pam Hymel outlined a series of potential options they are exploring ahead of the parks reopening. At this time, only Shanghai Disneyland has announced a reopening date.

Disney is unsure at this time when their other parks will reopen. However, when the remaining parks do reopen, there may be many new measures in place to ensure guest and Cast Member safety. One of these measures is one we have previously talked about as a possibility once the parks resume business operations: Virtual Queues.

Of course, in light of the global situation which has resulted in closures of Disney Parks around the globe (with all others remaining closed until further notice at this time), today’s announcement brings further questions regarding HOW the parks will operate upon reopening. In a letter from the Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel, today, several issues relating to the reopening of the Disney theme parks was addressed.
Magic Kingdom in Disney World
One of the most compelling was the confirmation that Disney is indeed exploring the option of opening their retail and dining locations (e.g. Disney Springs in Disney World and Downtown Disney in Disneyland as well as resorts and shops in some hotels, potentially) before they reopen the Theme Parks proper.
