Did you hear the great news??
Several nighttime entertainment options are returning to Disneyland soon! Fan-favorites like the Disneyland Forever fireworks show, Fantasmic!, and the Main Street Electrical Parade will be returning soon. When the Main Street Electrical Parade returns in all of its glory, it won’t look quite the same as it did before. Check out the NEW finale that Disneyland has planned for this parade, which includes a float themed after a VERY popular new movie!
Disney announced today that the Main Street Electrical Parade will return to Disneyland park on April 22nd, 2022. Starting then, you’ll be able to visit the park in the evening to catch this display of dazzling lights and whimsical music!
The parade will be celebrating its 50th Anniversary when it returns, so Disney wanted to honor the occasion with some new additions to the show. Specifically, the Imagineers have added a brand-new grand finale to the parade, which will “bring to life more than a dozen Disney Animation and Pixar stories.” You can see all of the floats for this new finale here! If you look closely at the second-to-last float in this image, you’ll see a couple of characters that have been getting a lot of attention recently….
Could you tell who it was? Disneyland is bringing Encanto to the Main Street Electrical Parade! This float will have Mirabel and Antonio, and you can also see La Casa Madrigal in lights beneath them. We learned before that Lin-Manuel Miranda (who is behind the music for Encanto) was advocating for the movie to be featured more in the parks, and it looks like that’s starting to happen!
All of the stories on the floats are meant to showcase a central theme of togetherness. In the finale, you’ll catch stylized scenes from more Disney movies like Raya and the Last Dragon, Coco, Aladdin, The Princess and the Frog, Brave, The Jungle Book, Mulan, and more. Disney said that you’ll get to see “unique representations of beloved characters as animated dolls.” From the concept art, it looks like we’ll also see scenes from Hercules, Pinocchio…
…Pocahontas, Frozen…
…and a stylized Sleeping Beauty Castle, complete with fireworks over it!
The new floats were inspired by the classic designs of earlier Main Street Electrical Parade floats as well as “Disney Legend Mary Blair’s iconic art style” as seen on the attraction “it’s a small world.”
There will be thousands of lights on the new floats, and they’ll parade through the park to the iconic electro-synthe-magnetic music that we know and love from this parade. In total, the grand finale will have seven parade floats and be 118 feet long total. Disney said that makes it “one of the longest and grandest units in the parade’s 50-year history.”
We can’t wait to see this parade return and check out the new finale for its 50th Anniversary! Keep following DFB for more updates on the latest Disney news.

It’s 50th Anniversary? WDW is having a 50th too….wish it was coming back to FL. I know it originated in DL…& that’s where I first saw it as a child, but darn, I would love to see it again! MSEP is hands-down my fave nighttime ‘show’. And the OG Fantasy In The Sky fireworks.
Jenn I totally agree with you! I thought for a second it said Disney World and got all excited. Wish it would return to Florida. Some real OG Disney would be great. The new parade floats looked awesome!
I agree with the others above. WDW is 50 and so is the Parade. After WDW 50th opening ceremony debacle, the holiday parties more money for less, they should bring the Electrical parade to Florida to give the people a little more excitement and happiness this year.
I was fortunate to be good friends with many in the Main Street Electrical Parade at Walt Disney World in the late 70’s and early 80’s. Needless to say, it is my favorite parade and I wish it was a part of WDW 50 Anniversary too! I also can appreciate the new floats that will be added. Let’s all hope it comes back to Disney World soon.
