We heard a ton of big news at this year’s D23 Expo, including an opening timeline for TRON: Lightcycle Run, a possible expansion for Magic Kingdom, and a potential overhaul of DinoLand U.S.A. in Disney’s Animal Kingdom. But there was one very important thing MISSING from most of Disney’s announcements.

Although we heard about lots of general plans and potential projects, Disney shied away from giving any concrete, specific dates. Even for projects that are happening now and seem to be close to completion, we got very few specific details. So why all the secrecy? Plans have been in the works since 2018 for a high-speed train that would run from the Orlando Airport to Disney World, but it appears that those plans are not going to come to fruition.

After long debates about the route the train would take, it was decided in May that the Brightline would share tracks that currently house the SunRail Commuter system, and take it from the airport, to the Orange County Convention Center, and then down International Drive before going to Disney World, where a station was expected to be built near — but not on — Disney World property.
Disney’s Magical Express is gone, which has left guests with a few different options for getting from the Orlando International Airport to Disney World. There are a couple of bus services (similar to Magical Express), including Mears Connect and Sunshine Flyer. Or you can choose to use rideshare or rent a car. But many guests are looking forward to the proposed high-speed train that will take people straight from the airport to a stop in Disney Springs!

This train has been in the works for a while now, with several updates about the possible routes, the vehicles themselves, and the construction progress. Did you know that a NEW theme park is coming to Orlando?

Yep, Universal is currently working on Epic Universe, which will be the third theme park at Universal Orlando Resort. The project was supposed to open up next year, but due to the global pandemic, is now supposed to open in 2025. There hasn’t been a ton of info about what exactly is going on with construction on the new park, but we just found out a little more about what stage Universal is at in the building process.

The rumors are sort of perpetually out there — “Disney World is going to build a 5th theme park!” “It’ll be based on the villains!” “No, it’ll all be princess-themed!” “No, it’ll be based on Disney’s live-action movies!”

We get the hype. Heck, we want it to be true! We can’t deny that an entirely BRAND NEW 5th Disney World theme park in Orlando would be pretty amazing. But, will it actually happen? Why hasn’t it happened already? And, better yet, why might it NOT happen anytime soon? Today we’re breaking down all of our thoughts on why Disney World CAN’T just add a 5th theme park (sorry, guys!!).
In late April, it was announced that construction for Universal Orlando Resort’s upcoming theme park, Epic Universe, had met with delays in light of the current global situation which has led to the temporary closure of Universal Orlando as well as Walt Disney World Resort and other area destinations.

Epic Universe was originally slated to open in 2023, and even with the announced delay in construction, it had not been revealed how the delay would affect the opening timeline. However, according to an article by the Orlando Sentinel, construction of Epic Universe will not resume immediately upon the Resort’s reopening. [Read more…]

Epic Universe will ultimately join Universal Studios Florida, Universal’s Islands of Adventure and the Volcano Bay water park when it makes its debut at the Resort.
