Remember the middle of Future World in EPCOT?
With all the construction barriers in the area, it’s been a looooong time since we’ve been able to stroll through. Now though, we’ve got a new update on what’s going on BEHIND the barriers!
The EPCOT Transformation is underway and we found some surprising (and exciting) news today!
So obviously there’s lots to be excited about when it comes to the transformation — Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Moana Journey of Water, La Creperie de Paris, and more — and we’re waiting patiently for all of it. Now, it looks like we may have another new spot to look forward to too!
As you walk around EPCOT these days, you’ll notice a LOT of construction going on as part of the EPCOT Transformation.

Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind Construction
Various projects are underway including the construction of Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and work on the new nighttime show, Harmonious. But, some projects, like the Mary Poppins attraction and refurbishment of Spaceship Earth have been postponed. Could plans be changing for another part of this transformation — the Festival Pavilion? Here’s what we know.
Would you be surprised if we told you there’s construction in EPCOT? Probably not.
EPCOT is certainly Disney World’s work-in-progress park, but hey, the EPCOT Transformation is in full swing! We’ve seen permits for new foundations and Innoventions East construction in Future World — and now we have another peek at the work going on!
Oh, EPCOT, you ever-changing place!
We’re in EPCOT often to check out the latest construction, and it really does feel like there are updates every time we visit! But today, we found some updates from behind-the-scenes. This is construction you probably WON’T see on your EPCOT day, but it sure is exciting nonetheless! Let’s take a look at some BIG EPCOT building permits!
Just about everybody and their Uncle is obsessed with EPCOT’s new pylons right now!
In case you’ve slept on the EPCOT news the week, three clear acrylic pylons were recently installed in front of Spaceship Earth as part of a new entryway fountain for World Celebration — one of three new distinct neighborhoods Future World is being divvied up into.
Last year, Disney announced EPCOT would be undergoing a multi-year transformation.
The park would ultimately be divided into four distinct “neighborhoods”: World Celebration, World Nature, World Discovery, and World Showcase. Many shops, restaurants, and experiences located in Future World were closed or relocated shortly before the temporary closures occurred.
The radical transformation of Epcot is well underway and pretty soon we’ll be wishing Future World a fond farewell and welcoming the new World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature districts with open arms.
Electric Umbrella has already closed to make way for the future, but today we’re taking to the skies on the monorail to see the rest of the construction progress happening around Epcot.
Are you ready to see Epcot undergo its MAJOR transformation?
If you’ve been to the Dinsey World park in the last couple of months, you’ve already seen the construction happening all around Epcot’s main entrance and throughout much of Future World!
UPDATE: Disney previously announced Spaceship Earth would be closing May 26th, 2020! After closing for the COVID-19 pandemic, this project was put on hold. We will share more if and when we learn more about this overhaul.
If you were unsettled by the news that Spaceship Earth would be undergoing refurbishment as part of Epcot’s major transformation, at the D23 Expo this year, trust us, you’re not alone.
It frankly rocked our worlds to imagine what this could mean for the iconic geodesic sphere that’s graced the front entranceway of Epcot since the second Disney World park opened in 1982.
