The Case of the Disappearing Cupcakes

UPDATE: On our recent October 2011 trip to Animal Kingdom, we saw the cupcakes alive and well at Kusafiri Bakery! Just be sure to visit at 11:30 to ensure that you snag your sweet! ;-)

A reader (thanks Christa!) sent me an email yesterday asking about the cupcakes at Kusafiri Bakery in Disney’s Animal Kingdom…or the lack thereof!

As you know from our Disney cupcake crawl, there are some pretty fantastic cupcakes and a great brownie in the Animal Kingdom (Zebra Cupcake, paw print brownie, White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake). But the recent change in menus at the parks has shown that Disney is no longer guaranteeing the cupcakes’ existence at Kusafiri. :-(

That said, we have heard from some readers (Thanks Diane R. and Kristin W.!) that the cupcakes are available occasionally, but that they’re not around every single day as they had been before. There are also reports that [Read more…]

Challenge: The Disney Food Blog WDW “Cupcake Crawl”

You’ve heard about the Monorail Crawl, Erin just created the Epcot Candy Crawl, and some of you have even attempted “drinking around the World” Showcase, but to my knowledge, this particular mission has never been attempted. It’s a feat only for the strong. A challenge for your sweet tooth. It’s the Cupcake Crawl!

That’s right. Those of you who live for cream cheese frosting, chocolate, cheesecake, and pure decadence — this one is for YOU! Disney Cupcake fans — are you brave enough to try it?

Cupcake Vinylmation About To Be Released

Planned to be a limited edition set, Vinylmation Bakery will now be offered as an open window box. Sweetness! ;-) While the box still recognizes it as a limited edition, there will be no production limit set for these cute Vinylmations.

Snack Series: New Carrot Cake Cupcake at Wilderness Lodge

I was pretty lucky to meet cast member Michael S. last month on my visit to Walt Disney World!

This week, Michael sent along an awesome find — a new carrot cake cupcake at Roaring Fork in Disney’s Wilderness Lodge!

Wilderness Lodge Carrot Cake Cupcake

Looks pretty great to me. Here’s Michael’s review:

The cupcake was absolutely amazing! The frosting was definitely the best part, so sweet and creamy. It reminded me very much of the carrot cake cookie that I often get at the Writer’s Stop at Hollywood Studios, only in cupcake form. I will also add that the carrot cake itself was very moist. Overall the cupcake was [Read more…]

Snack Series: Oreo Bon Bon Cupcake and Peanut Butter Cupcake

A reader/cast member tipped me off to some new cupcakes being offered over at the Boardwalk Bakery!! While these may change monthly or seasonally, I just had to share ‘em with you!

Oreo Bon Bon Cupcake
Likely named after the famous Oreo BonBons at Cape May Cafe‘s evening clam bake, the Oreo Bon Bon cupcake is massive and Mickey-fied!

Oreo Bon Bon Cupcake

Interestingly, the Oreo cupcake is a yellow vanilla cake (who’d a thunk it?) with vanilla frosting. A ribbon of Oreo crumbs coats the bottom of the frosting, and two little Oreos make a Mickey Mouse out of the whole thing.

The frosting is a bit light for my taste — closer to that on the Black Forest Cupcake than the Marble Cupcake — but it’s very tasty.

The Oreos stuck into the top were, [Read more…]
