News! Holiday Gluhwein is Back in Epcot’s Germany

In Epcot’s Germany pavilion, a Christmas market, or Christkindlmarkt, was recently spotted! Serving Gluhwein by the glass (or bottle!) and Radeberger Pilsner by the bottle, this warm and inviting location is a great place to hang out for some holiday cheer!

As we reported last year, Gluhwein, or mulled wine, is served hot with hints of cinnamon, vanilla, and citrus. It’s a full-bodied wine with a mix of sweet and spice!

Guest Review: Bratwurst at Epcot’s Sommerfest

Thanks to our good friends at WDW for Grown-ups for this great review of the Bratwurst at Sommerfest, the counter-service location in Epcot’s Germany pavilion!

Apparently, many people don’t care for sauerkraut.

I get this impression because in the short time I was eating outside of Sommerfest, several families passed on eating there because the food came with kraut. This is a shame, because they missed out on a great meal for no reason.

Statements of fact: 1. Sommerfest has pretty good food, even if you don’t like sauerkraut; and 2. You can avoid the kraut. Let’s proceed…

Germany’s Sommerfest is located next to the entrance to the table-service location, Biergarten. According to their current menu, Sommerfest has two “entrees:” you can either get a bratwurst, or a frankfurter (both of which come with [Read more…]

New World Showcase Mickey Ears Hats Featuring Foooood!

I absolutely love that the Disney Store is carrying some theme park merchandise now. And these Ears Hats might be the perfect headgear for your upcoming trip to the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

Highlighting Epcot’s World Showcase countries, these Ears Hats may not be all the rage just yet, but after a few brews I can see ya posing for a pic or two! And when you do, share it at the Disney Food Blog Photo Extravaganza. Please!

2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Brews

Can you have a festival without beer? I think not. At the 2011 Epcot Food and Wine Festival, brews will be available in many locations. Get your thirst quenched at the Craft Beer Booth, Brewer’s Collection, and the Hops and Barley Marketplace. Many individual countries will also be serving up their own beer, and there will likely be beer seminars on the docket in the Festival Center.

That said, many beer enthusiasts are less than thrilled with the offerings at this year’s Festival, mentioning the lack of more obscure and unique craft beers. We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments section below!

Craft Beers will have their own booth at the 2011 Food and Wine Festival

Snack Series: Caramel Covered Shortbread in Epcot

Over at Epcot’s Karamell-Küche in the Germany pavilion, there are endless treats to try…as we all know.

The caramel smell hits you like a wave when you walk into the shop, and I sincerely suggest you eat before you stop in, because if you’re even the least big hungry, I promise that your eyes will be significantly bigger than your stomach…as mine were a couple of weeks ago!

Stopping in to get a bit of information about how the caramel corn is made (my Dad needed the details as he’s working very hard on duplicating the recipe! Yay!), I, of course, had to check out the display cases. And I saw this.

I know I’ve seen it before, but it never called out to me like it did on this visit. (You know how that is…when food calls out to you…right? No?) Sweet, gooey caramel layered onto a lovely piece of shortbread. Shortbread crumbles on top. Simple, yet pretty freaking [Read more…]

DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book Recommendation

On MiceChat, Sam Gennaway recommends Disney World essentials, including The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining!

A quick quote from the review: “[AJ’s] goal was to write a book that is unlike any other Disney guidebook. In that respect, she has succeeded. This could only come from somebody who realizes that dining is more than just eating at Disney, it is an important part of the whole experience. Plus, the book tries really hard to find the proper balance between planning and spontaneity, which is not easy anymore.”

Thanks to Sam, again, for this review, and thanks to MiceChat for sharing it! If you’d like to check out the e-Book, pick up your copy here!

The Beer, Wine, and Cookies Christmas Tree

Happy Christmas, everyone!

So, I was wandering around Epcot’s Germany during our October vacation and found myself in the Christmas store there. “Wow,” I thought, “there’s so much great Christmas stuff here that I’d love to write about, but none of it is food-related, so… .” But then, there it was! Glimmering in the late-afternoon sunlight — Beer! Cookies! Christmas! I knew then and there that I wanted to write about this perky little tree, and I figured I’d save it for today!

Free Caramel Corn for Disney World Annual Passholders

It’s true, it’s true! Disney World annual passholders can get free caramel corn at Karamell Kuche in Epcot’s Germany through December 11th.

This is the size of the caramel corn bag when you get it

The bag is small — about half the size of a regular small bag, but it’s enough to have a nice snack as you walk through World Showcase.

Just heed a few warnings though: [Read more…]
