It’s the most wonderful time of the year!
What do you picture when you hear the word “brunch“? Perfectly runny eggs, crisp-yet-juicy fried chicken, bacon-covered donuts, and creamy grits topped with blistered cheese?
If any of that sounds irresistible, Chef Art Smith’s Homecomin’ Florida Kitchen and Southern Shine Bar at Disney Springs might just be the perfect brunch spot for you. DFB recently paid Homecomin’ a visit to experience the Rise and Shine Brunch, and we have lots of great info to share with you!
Happy Funday Monday! Today, we thought we’d take a closer look at one of our favorite Disney Resort Snacks in our latest DFB Video. So join me as we head over to the shady squares of Port Orleans French Quarter Resort.
And when we go to Port Orleans you know we aren’t leaving without snagging an order or three of their amazing Beignets!
Smothered in powdered sugar, these hot-from-the-fryer, melt-in-your-mouth treats are pretty amazing all by themselves. But at Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, you can also score them with Dipping Sauces. Choose from Caramel, Raspberry, or Chicory Coffee Ganache. Or don’t choose. Because ALL THE SAUCES. Thank goooooooodness for Disney food friends! Sabrina (@everythingdisney.55) stopped into the Disneyland Hotel’s The Coffee House for some truly funk-i-fied doughnuts. And she shared her find with us!
The Coffee House is a cool spot — and not just because they serve up Dole Whip Floats!! But they don’t keep long hours here, so do check the times so you don’t miss out!
Just when you thought the Matterhorn Macaroon couldn’t get any cooler (Get it? There’s faux snow on top!), it did. Because donut.
And thanks to our Disneyland go-to gal Heather Sievers (aka @DiningInDisney), we’ve got the scoop on this massive treat. The Matterhorn Macaroon Donut is available at the coffee cart in the hub near the entrance to Fantasy Faire. So it’s super convenient to grab along with your morning java (plus they have a bevy of yummy donuts all the time).
But how, you may ask, did the kooky sweet-treat-designers craft a Matterhorn Macaroon Donut?
Bonjour! We are popping into Les Halles Boulangerie and Patisserie in Epcot’s France Pavilion today to take a closer look at a new-to-us pastry!
You may remember last year around Mardi Gras time when we shared with you the Beignets commemorating that time of year. They were really interesting — unlike what we normally think of as beignets. (You know, those fluffy fried pillows of deliciousness. Rectangular or Mickey-shaped — we’re good either way.)
But on a recent visit to Les Halles we were intrigued to read that the Beignets seemed to be different, since they were described as Chocolate Hazelnut-filled.
Yeah…that’s all it took to get us there.
Le Beignet at Les Halles
The previous beignets at Les Halles were Bugnes Lyonnaise, diamond-shaped with a hole in the middle, and were rolled in granulated sugar. So when I was handed this treat, it was clear that we were dealing with something completely different.
We took the snack to my favorite secret hide-y place in the France Pavilion. (Nope, not tellin’ ya where…OK, behind the perfume shops. But don’t tell.) It’s a wonderfully quiet and shady spot — a perfect place to dig into Les Halles loot!
Time to cut into it! I went for it, expecting to see a snug little pocket of chocolate Hazelnut filling. But this is what greeted me on the cross section.
Well, I knew there was filling in there. It was too heavy for there not to be! And so I [Read more…]
Editor’s Note: The Drunken’ Donuts have been removed from the menu.
All right, all; it’s time for some serious DONUTAGE!!
Just last week I once more headed over Bay Lake and through the woods to Disney’s Wilderness Lodge. The Territory Lounge beckoned with a sweet menu item that I couldn’t resist trying.
I know. So tough. But someone has to bring you all the latest, right? 😉
This laid-back spot is one of my favorite places in all of the World to relax while enjoying some truly spectacular pub grub. Rarely crowded and always staffed with the most excellent cast members (Yay, LouAnn!), I still think that Territory Lounge is one of the best kept secrets at Disney World.
But when Kathie F. tipped me off recently that she and her husband had enjoyed a new-to-me dessert offering here, that guaranteed I would be visiting the bar sooner rather than later.
The menu had changed a little since our last review. Gone were the Tuna Tataki and the Asian Steamed Buns. The Chicken Wings were back, replacing their predecessor, Chicken Lollipops. (The lollipops were basically just wings, though, so I’m not sure what’s up with the weird name.)
Onion Soup has joined the team as well, and the Wild Mushroom Flatbread has returned by popular demand. And because they’re awesome — the Northwest Charcuterie and Sharp Cheddar Beer Fondue are still alive and kicking!
But the most interesting change on the menu is the addition of two desserts. One is a favorite of ours from the Artist Point kitchens: the Artist Point Berry Cobbler. And the other one was what I was after on this evening: DONUTS. And not just any donuts… [Read more…]
Churros are quickly joining popcorn, Mickey Premium Bars, Dole Whip Floats, and Mickey Pretzels as one of the go-to snacks in Walt Disney World and Disneyland!
These long, doughnut-y sticks dipped in cinnamon-sugar are a delicious, light snack for any time of day. I got mine while I was waiting for the next show with Mr. Lincoln!
One little piece of info I concluded during my marathon Disney-World-to-Disneyland-in-two-weeks trip is that churros have a much bigger presence in Disneyland than in Disney World! While you can find them in the World, churro stands in Disneyland feel more prevalent and are intricately themed based on the land where they’re located. Here’s a [Read more…]
So, I find it fascinating that of the four new restaurants that recently opened in Walt Disney World (Sanaa, Kouzzina, T-Rex, and Paradiso 37), three of them have donuts on their dessert menus!
Donuts! With dipping sauces and everything! Interactive desserts are my favorite, and I have been called the “condiment queen.” So you can imagine how excited I am to have dip-able desserts, and the fact that they’re donuts makes them that much better. Let’s take a look at the three up-and-comers now:
Kouzzina is Iron Chef Cat Cora’s signature restaurant in Walt Disney World, and the menu consists of many of her favorite traditional Greek recipes. One of these recipes is for her outstanding Loukoumades.
These “Freshly Made Greek Doughnuts drizzled with Warm Honey” come to the table with two delicious dipping sauces, including [Read more…]
