Disneyland and Dole: 36 Years of Pineapple Partnership

Recently I had the pleasure of attending Dole’s Banana Summit at the Disneyland Resort. And while we’ll go bananas a bit later, it’s Disneyland and Dole’s partnership on the pineapple front (Dole Whip anyone?) that I think you guys are going to love hearing about.

Dole Whip Time at the Enchanted Tiki Room

After all, Dole is the official sponsor of perhaps the most iconic attraction and snack of the Disneyland (and Disney World!) Resort. What better place to learn about this partnership than the Enchanted Tiki Room with a Dole Whip in hand?

While indulging in pineapple fantasticness, our group was escorted into an empty Tiki Room for a presentation [Read more…]

UPDATED With Wine and Beer Menus: News! Be Our Guest Restaurant to Serve Beer and Wine in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

Interesting news coming out of the Magic Kingdom today about Be Our Guest Restaurant!

Sadly, I’m on vacation (yay!) and couldn’t be at the Be Our Guest Restaurant Media Event happening right now (boo!); but thanks to social media we’re getting great info to share with you!

Magic Kingdom Park No Longer “Dry”

According to several of our friends at the event, the big news is that Disney’s Magic Kingdom will now be serving alcohol for the first time ever.

Located in a *formerly* “dry” park where no alcohol was served (based on Walt’s wishes for Disneyland Park, where alcohol is only served at the private Club 33), Be Our Guest Restaurant will be serving alcoholic beer and wine for their guests.

According to Stuart McGuire, Beverage Director, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, “As part of the overall theming, we wanted to offer wine that enhances the guest experience and complements the French-inspired cuisine.”

Be Our Guest Restaurant Wine Menu

“The wines focus primarily on France’s famous wine-growing regions, including Champagne, Alsace, Loire, Rhone, Burgundy and Bordeaux,” says McGuire. Check out the full Be Our Guest Restaurant Wine and Beer Menu.

According to McGuire, “We’ll also offer the leading French beer, Kronenbourg 1664. And, staying in the general region, we’ll also offer Belgian beers.” We love that they’ll have some Chimay [Read more…]

Review: Nutella Waffle Sandwich in Magic Kingdom Park

Welcome back, friends, to one of the great hidden gems of Walt Disney World dining! Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in the Magic Kingdom offers so many unique and classic Disney treats that the entire menu likely worth ordering these days!

From funnel cakes and Chicken and Wild Rice Soup to homemade ice cream cookie sandwiches and Liberty Swirl slushes (review coming soon!), this spot is a Disney Snack Superstar these days.

However, it’s the Waffle Sandwiches that are truly putting Sleepy Hollow on the map! Included in the list are a breakfast sandwich; a ham, proscuitto, and swiss sandwich, a spicy chicken sandwich, and this outstanding Fruit and Nutella sandwich!

Nutella Waffle Sandwich With Fruit

I couldn’t wait to get my first taste of this sweet waffle sandwich. Pairing trendy Nutella — a chocolate hazelnut spread that I became addicted to when I was working overseas (try it with peanut butter!!) — with gorgeous berries bananas and smooshing it all into a giant Belgian waffle is clearly a [Read more…]

Disney Food Pics of the Week: Hot Dogs

Your photo contributions to the Disney Food Blog Photo Extravaganza on flickr are soooooo mouthwatering! We love looking through your food pics!

The Disney Food Pics of the Week this week feature Disney hot dogs (we would have added corn dogs, but I think those should get their own feature)! For a classic theme park snack or meal, the hot dog is always a delicious option.

Loaded or plain — these hot dogs from Casey’s Corner in the Magic Kingdom look fabulous!

New in Disney World: Mickey Ear Hat Brownies, Chocolate-Covered Pineapple, and More!

During my recent Walt Disney World visit, my first stop in the Magic Kingdom was, as always, the Main Street Confectionery.

Most of the usual yummies were right where they should be (I’m talking to you Krispie Mickey Heads and mint chocolate fudge). But I did notice a few recent additions to the Confectionery offerings.

Mickey Ear Hat Brownies

First up in the refrigerator case, I noticed something labeled “Brownies $3.95.”

These cute-as-a-button treats are shaped like little Mickey ear hats. Fun! They come in four flavors: raspberry (red swirl), mint (green swirl), all chocolate (white swirl), or, gasp, English toffee (toffee bits on top). I opted to try the mint version.

As with all Mickey-shaped items, I opted to eat the ears first. Unfortunately, I was so busy eating the ear that I [Read more…]

Guest Review: Pinocchio Village Haus — Now With Flatbreads!

We’re welcoming back guest author Melissa Sue Sorrells Galley with a review of Pinocchio Village Haus. And since the new menu was recently revealed, we’ll also include a review of one of the new flatbreads available!

After recovering from One More Disney Day, I headed back into the Magic Kingdom where I found myself exiting Mickey’s PhilharMagic to the realization that I was starving.

That’s when a Cast Member with a puppet waved at me, and I knew what I had to do.

No strings!

Tucked between the new Fantasyland construction walls and it’s a small world, Pinocchio Village Haus is a bit confusing. It’s in Fantasyland, and the food is Italian, but the restaurant itself is based on the Bavarian architecture that Walt and Lillian Disney were so fond of.

Pinocchio Village Haus

In fact, it’s set in a little German village, where there’s oompah playing over the speakers and you order lunch in what appears to be a charming courtyard.

Once you’ve got your food in hand, it’s time to [Read more…]

Model Shots: Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern

UPDATE: Read about the Opening Date for Be Our Guest Restaurant and Reservations Info!

Thanks again to reader and super Disney Food Scrapbooker Heather W. for some awesome photos from the Magic Kingdom Fantasyland Model, currently in residence at Disney’s Hollywood Studios!

New Fantasyland Map

Of course, our biggest focus here are the upcoming restaurants — Be Our Guest Restaurant and Gaston’s Tavern — scheduled to open in “late 2012.”

We see Beast’s Castle looming in the upper right-hand corner!

This wall serves as the gateway to the new area. Here is where Belle’s Cottage where “Enchanted Tales with Belle” will take place. I can almost see Belle strolling through with a book in hand!

Nestled at the base of the Beast’s Castle is Gaston’s Tavern. As guests approach the pub in this French village, the impressive fountain highlights Gaston’s super-ego.

Inside this counter-service location, a huge portrait will further showcase Gaston’s love — of himself! After the tavern, venture across the way to Bonjour! Village Gifts.

Gaston's Tavern

Yes, we are all eagerly anticipating the opening of the imagineering marvel, Be Our Guest Restaurant! We’ve seen a sneak peek of the ballroom with a breathtaking mural, and read descriptions of the various dining rooms.

The doors inside the lower rocks (on the right) and between the green trees lead to Be Our Guest. Knock, [Read more…]

Guest Review: Liberty Tree Tavern Dinner

Join me in welcoming back guest author Aaron Crum as he takes us to the Liberty Tree Tavern in the Magic Kingdom for a family-style meal!

Imagine this: you are walking through Walt Disney World, and suddenly you find yourself immersed in colonial America.

Not only are you reliving some of American history, you discover that it’s Thanksgiving Day and a feast has been prepared for you to enjoy.

Welcome to Liberty Tree Tavern!

Liberty Tree Tavern is located in the Liberty Square area of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The lobby has somewhat of a “lodge” feel to it. There is a lot of exposed wood and very open spaces.

When we visited, the computers were down, causing several delays and the restaurant to be extremely crowded. After waiting outside for our table to be ready, we were summoned to the lobby and taken to our table.

There are several different dining rooms within Liberty Tree Tavern, all themed after historical figures from United States history. We happened to be seated in the [Read more…]
