This could be a hot take, but we often believe that some Disneyland food is superior to Disney World food.
Now, don’t come at us until you’ve taste tested a Disneyland churro vs. a Disney World churro. We even think the Mickey beignets taste a little better in Disneyland (although Disney World has BOOZY ones, so they get extra points for that). Plus, you have all those snacks that never make it over to the East Coast that we’re always jealous of. Now, Disneyland has one-upped Disney World with a new snack that combines a hot dog with a BBQ sandwich. Say what?
So we’re heading on over to Award Wieners in California Adventure to try the new BBQ Hot Link Sandwich. This includes a Hot Link, Mac & Cheese, BBQ Pulled Pork, and Creamy Coleslaw topped with Crispy Onions and BBQ Sauce on a French Roll, served with Cuties Mandarin Oranges or Filmstrip Fries. (Um…excuse us, but we are ALWAYS going to go for those fries).
Yes, that’s basically a spicy hotdog combined with an upgraded BBQ Pulled Pork Sandwich with MAC AND CHEESE, CRISPY ONIONS, AND BBQ SAUCE ON TOP. We’re going to quote Mickey here and say, “Oh, boy!” Just put EVERYTHING we love on a bun, Disney, and call it a day, why don’t you?
This thing tastes as good as it sounds. The pulled pork has a sweet barbecue sauce flavor with a bit of tanginess. The coleslaw adds a cool and refreshing crunch to the hotdog. The fried onions are nice and crispy, although they add more texture than flavor to the overall sandwich. Everything just works in harmony with this sandwich.
The mac and cheese is SO good and cheesy (y’all know how we feel about cheese). We will say the hotdog is a little spicier than we expected, so if you’re averse to spice, you might want to skip this sandwich. But we LOVED IT. We also think the portion size is good for the price of $15.49.
The only real complaint we have about the sandwich is that it is VERY messy, so you might want to have loads of napkins — and maybe even moist towelettes handy. This one is for those who love some heat and barbecue, so if that isn’t your thing, move along. But if that sounds good to you, head on over to Award Wieners now to try it out!
We’ll be making our way around Disneyland to try out even MORE new foods, so stay tuned to DFB for more reviews (to quote Ursula, “It’s what we LIVE FOR”).
