You heard about our Five Best “One-Credit” Table-Service Values last week, so I wanted to share what I believe to be the five best quick-service values today! These are my picks based on what you get for one quick-service credit on the Disney Dining Plan; they may not stand up as the best when we consider paying out of pocket.
Hopefully this will be useful to those of you heading down to the World for free dining this fall!
With the famous (and delicious) rotisserie chicken ringing up at over $14 plus tax, it costs more than some table service meals. Some of the salads and sandwiches alone will cost [Read more…]

Whew! News-heavy week here at the Food Blog! Today, let’s look at some newly released info about Hacienda de San Angel, the newly renovated restaurant opening in September in Epcot’s Mexico Pavilion! Here are some great pics of the Hacienda de San Angel slide presentation given at the D23 Flowers and Fireworks event this past weekend. These were taken and donated by Lori Abramson — Thanks, Lori!
Hacienda de San Angel will be opening with a bang in September 2010! What’s the “bang,” you ask? Illuminations, of course! The restaurant is ideally situated to offer incredible (and coveted!) views of Epcot’s nightly Illuminations: Reflections of Earth fireworks show. And with the addition of the table-service part of the restaurant, those ADRs might be tougher to get than Le Cellier for around 8:00pm every night!
Here’s an aerial image of what the restaurant looks like, under construction, right now. You can see how fantastic that view is going to be once it’s finished! Check out that outdoor, circular patio!
The restaurant will have a whole new “backstory,” and a new service structure, which will allow the restaurant to operate as [Read more…]

More news is trickling in about the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Here are some great pics of the Food and Wine Festival slide presentation given at the D23 Flowers and Fireworks event this past weekend. These were taken and donated by Lori Abramson — Thanks, Lori!
First of all, the most important news (to me, anyway) is that not only are Belgium and South Korea going to be new booths in the 2010 Epcot Food and Wine Festival Marketplace, but Singapore will be introduced on the World Showcase Promenade as well!
Looks like Belgium will feature steamed mussels, South Korea will feature “Bo Ssam” — lettuce wraps with a roast pork and kimchee slaw, and Singapore will feature shrimp cake with Singapore noodles!
And while you’re visiting those new marketplaces, you’ll now be able to keep track of what you’ve tried! The festival this year will introduce [Read more…]

Hot dog, hot dog, hot diggity dog! I am sooo excited to finally have pictures of all of my favorite hot dogs in Disney World! How excited, you ask? So excited, that I decided to do a blog post about it.
Now, some of you might not think that hot dogs (or “hotted dogs,” as Michael Crawford would say) are that big a deal. “So what?” you say. “A hot dog’s a hot dog.”
Not so, my friends. My mother is a hot dog enthusiast, and I must have gotten some of her hot-dog-lovin’ genes. Not every dog tastes the same, and Disney World has a few that are outstanding (in spite of their new beef/chicken-ness*). Below are my favorites, in no particular order…
is synonymous with hot dogs. There’s just no getting around the fact that they’re the epitome of the Disney Hot Dog Empire, so we must begin with them. Sitting at the end of Main Street, right in sight-view of every parade, firework, and Castle show that happens in Disney World, Casey’s also provides [Read more…]

If it’s a Wednesday in May, it must mean…Mirror Image Post day!!! Hooray!!! That’s right, today you get a two-fer — Ryan from Main Street Gazette and yours truly here at the Disney Food Blog are reviewing “mirror-image” food topics in Disneyland and Disney World. This week we’re taking a look at Disney’s Food and Wine Festivals, and I get to talk about Disney’s California Food and Wine Festival — which is going on RIGHT NOW!
Disneyland Resort’s Food and Wine Festival is a fun, diverse, and exciting six weeks full of celebrity chefs, California cuisine, artistic exploration, great wine, and good beer. And here’s something you might not know — the festival takes place primarily within the gates of Disney’s California Adventure Theme Park!
This year, the Festival is celebrating its fifth anniversary! It’s still a rather small festival, but with blockbuster seminars from chefs like Guy Fieri, Cat Cora, Keegan Gerhard, and Robert Irvine, along with fantastic wine and beer walks, tastes of incredible California ingredients, and a hip, “never-know-what-to-expect-next” atmosphere, the Festival fits its location and fills its six week stint perfectly.
How do you know what’s happening, and when? Disney has it [Read more…]

One of Disney World’s most beloved counter service restaurants isn’t actually a Disney restaurant at all — it’s part of a chain of sandwich shops called Earl of Sandwich! We still love it, though, and couldn’t wait to highlight it here on the blog.
Atmosphere
Located in Downtown Disney’s Marketplace, Earl of Sandwich is a restaurant wrapped up in a history lesson. As the story goes, John Montague, the 4th Earl of Sandwich in England, invented the sandwich as an easy, eat-on-the-run (or while playing cards) meal. Today, the 11th Earl of Sandwich and his family have taken the name to new heights by developing Earl of Sandwich stores and selling high-quality, delicious sandwich varieties along with fresh [Read more…]

Just wanted to share a few more tidbits of news about the newest restaurants in Epcot’s World Showcase as well as some other Epcot food news!
First, as you know, Epcot will be revealing two restaurants this fall: Hacienda de San Angel is the new name for what was known as the Cantina de San Angel in the Mexico pavilion. This location will serve as a counter service eatery during the day, and a table service eatery at night.
Via Napoli, in the Italy pavilion, will be a brand new 300-seat restaurant in Epcot’s World Showcase. The recent news is that the wood-fired pizza ovens in the restaurant will represent three volcanoes in Italy!
The two will open in September, and should be added to Disney’s Advanced Dining Reservations availability in July or August, according to the announcements made at today’s D23 Flowers and Fireworks event.
Stay tuned this week for even more details and announcements about Via Napoli and Hacienda de San Angel! To follow the News stories about these restaurants, check out these links:

Word is that Germany’s Goebel Shop in the World Showcase will become a Werther’s Candy Shop by September, 2010. While you’re waiting, check out what it might look like via this The Disney Blog link — seems that Werther’s has shot candy commercials in Epcot’s Germany, turning that exact store into a Werther’s shop…
As you know from our previous post, it looks like Belgium and South Korea will be joining the other country-specific booths on Epcot’s World Showcase Promenade this Fall at the 2010 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.

Word is that this year, Epcot will be introducing Belgium, Singapore, and South Korea to the line-up! (I don’t know about you, but I’m hoping for chocolate in that Belgium booth!)
There are other surprises, too! Disney’s introducing a special 3D Dessert party and more! Stay tuned to our Epcot International Food and Wine Festival page for the latest info!
