Disney has already shared that Disney Springs will partially reopen on May 20th. This phased reopening includes select third-party locations.
Now, we’re seeing reports that Disney locations may be reopening seven days later.
We’ve been closely following the discussions going on from the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force in Florida.
Specifically, the Reopening Business workgroup is of interest thanks to the fact that Thomas Mazloum, Disney World senior vice president, is on the committee. They’ve discussed the reopening of the Orlando theme parks several times, and today it came up in conversation once again.
May 20th is a HUGE date for Disney Fans, as Disney Springs has announced that some stores and restaurants will be reopening that day — starting Disney World’s phased reopening.
A limited number of third-party (e.g. NOT Disney) owned and operated outlets will open that day, implementing increased health and safety protocols for guests and workers. These range from local darling Wine Bar George to STK and Erin McKenna’s NYC Bakery, and now we’ve got another one to add to the list!
Disney World recently sent out guest surveys about the parks and announced new precautions for future visitors.
Although Disney World is still closed until further notice, analysts predict the parks could be open as early as July.
We’re inching slowly closer to a possible reopening of the Disney World theme parks, so we’re starting to think about what that might look like.
And we’re not the only ones! A lot like the world is has been shut down in response to the global health crisis.
The Disney Parks weren’t the only theme parks to shutter up for the safety of guests! Theme parks around the world have seen lengthy closures and some, like Disney Parks around the world, have remained closed longer than they ever have before.
Now, many of these parks are starting to reopen or at least develop a plan to do so. As Disney looks to reopen Shanghai Disneyland likely followed by the other parks, what can we learn from the measures that non-Disney parks are taking?
In a letter from the Disney Parks Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Pamela Hymel, today, several issues relating to the reopening of the Disney theme parks was addressed.
One of the most compelling was the confirmation that Disney is indeed exploring the option of opening their retail and dining locations (e.g. Disney Springs in Disney World and Downtown Disney in Disneyland as well as resorts and shops in some hotels, potentially) before they reopen the Theme Parks proper.
The Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force, with Disney in attendance, has been in and out of meetings pretty heavily the past few weeks.
We’ve been keeping an extra close eye on the Reopening Business Group (that has reps from Disney in attendance!) and the Bringing Back Tourism Group. Today, Disney spoke up in a meeting of the former to announce that their reopening plans as of right now are…no plans.
Disney World has been closed for over a month, and with one indefinite closure extension already, we’re starting to wonder when Disney World will open again.
At times like these, we turn to the experts to hear what they have to say. We’ve heard predictions about the Disney parks from a bunch of assumedly smart Wall Street analysts. The problem? Their predictions all contradict one another!
Analysts are saying that Disney World could reopen soon, this fall, or even next year. So, WHICH IS IT, smart people?! Will we be back in the parks closer to June — or closer to January? Or later? Let’s break it down… .
