After being shuttered for many months, Florida is well into Phase One of its gradual reopening.
Disney Springs
Just yesterday, we saw several third-party restaurants and shops resume business at Disney Springs and last week Universal Studios’ CityWalk took its first reopening steps. But while Disney and Universal-owned hotels and theme parks will remain closed until further notice, some vacation rental properties in the area have just been given the green light to start reopening.
As of now, Orlando area theme parks such as Walt Disney World, Universal Orlando, and SeaWorld Orlando have not announced reopening dates.
Florida Palms
Universal Orlando’s CityWalk and Disney Springs have reopened certain retail and dining locations to guests and SeaWorld is performing test runs of their coasters with masked riders — but none of these companies have shared a timeline for reopening their theme parks.
Although Florida public schools remained closed through the end of the spring semester, some Florida universities are already inching towards re-opening.

No official dates have been announced yet, but select universities are planning on re-opening for the Fall 2020 semester.
Although Disney Springs is set to begin a phased re-opening tomorrow, May 20th, and Universal Orlando’s CityWalk has re-opened to the public, Florida’s major theme parks still remain closed.

No opening dates have been announced for Disney World, Universal Orlando, or SeaWorld Orlando, but SeaWorld appears to already be prepping for guests to return.
While many Florida theme parks are currently looking for the best way to open, Gatorland Orlando will be re-opening during Phase Two of Florida’s re-opening plan.

The attraction submitted its health and safety proposal to the Orange County Economic Recovery Task Force for consideration. Now, as the theme park moves forward in getting its park ready for guests, Gatorland released some very…interesting…videos explaining their new guidelines (and you just have to see them for yourself). The shopping and dining district has been closed since March, but CityWalk at Universal Orlando is opening today with limited hours, limited offerings, and new health and safety measures in place. Follow along with us as we take you step-by-step through the new guest experience.
Much of Florida has been in Phase One of the reopening of the state’s economy as of May 4th. However, when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that Florida would begin reopening — which includes businesses such as retail stores and restaurants — three counties that have been most impacted by the current health situation were excluded from the reopening.

These three counties were Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach Counties. However, at a press conference today Governor DeSantis has announced that Miami-Dade and Broward can now join the rest of the state in Phase One. [Read more…]
While the Disney World resorts have recently pushed back their availability to July 1st (which still isn’t confirmation the hotels will reopen) it seems Best Western Lake Buena Vista is also preparing for a lengthier closure.

According to an email sent to us by a representative at the Disney World-area hotel, they aren’t expecting to reopen until July 1st at the earliest.
While many Florida restaurants and retail locations have slowly started to reopen, the same can’t be said for the state’s many convention centers which have remained dormant since March.

Jacksonville, Tampa, Orlando, Orange County, Broward County, and Miami Beach all have large convention centers.
