So, What’s New at Kouzzina?

From the looks of the photos on the Disney Parks Blog, not all that much.

Kouzzina Dining Room (c) Disney

To their credit, Kouzzina was only closed for refurbishment for a few weeks, so we’re excited that anything happened in that time! That said… The Kouzzina dining room will still be large, loud, and barn-like — not bad, just not all that different from what it was. The addition of an olive oil tasting at the beginning of each meal is great, but, again, two olive oils [Read more…]

Kouzzina by Cat Cora Unveils Chef’s Table

Editor’s Note: Kouzzina is no longer offering a Chef’s Table option.

This just in from WDW News!

As you know, Kouzzina by Cat Cora on Disney World’s Boardwalk has been closed for a few weeks for refurbishment. Everyone wondered why a restaurant that’s only been open for a year needed refurb, but, here’s a bit of a peek into the mystery!

The restaurant has re-emerged with even more to offer —

  • New exterior signage
  • New “Cat Cora Presence” in the lobby via video monitors that showcase Cat’s views on food and family
  • Cat’s product line is now available for sale in the lobby
  • And “olive oil tasting experience” is now highlighted in the main dining room — with the bread at the meal, servers will offer two varieties of Greek olive oils to taste and compare
  • New artwork, marble finishes, and window treatments have also been added
  • And… a CHEF’S TABLE! The “Coranation Room” has been added at the back of the room with more upscale decor. A Chef’s Table experience will be offered on weekends (upcoming).

Five Great Underrated Steaks in Disney World

A couple of weeks ago, I highlighted my top steaks in Disney World. And today it’s time to spotlight my favorite lesser-known slabs of beef!

When you think about great steaks in Disney World, your mind goes to the big three: Le Cellier Steakhouse, Yachtsman Steakhouse, and Shula’s Steak House. If you’re a bit more studied in steak, you might also think of the great offering over at Flying Fish, or even the incredible Mac-and-Cheese festooned beef at Jiko.

But, with steak being one of my favorite meals in Disney World, I’ve been lucky enough to find a few more delicious options in my travels…

    Teppan Edo

Teppan Edo, the Teppanyaki restaurant in Epcot’s Japan pavilion, has steak on the menu and believe me when I say it is some of the best steak I’ve ever had in Disney World. Maybe it’s the flavors of the other items being cooked on the hibachi grill, maybe it’s the buttery goodness of the cooking ingredients, maybe it’s the fact that I’m eating with chopsticks. I have no idea why, but it’s delectable.

The Most Popular Disney World Restaurants (And Alternatives When They’re Full)

    Chef Donald

You guys remember when we covered the Top Ten Disney Dining Tips, right? Overwhelmingly, the tip that was mentioned the most by Disney Food Blog readers was making Advanced Dining Reservations for high priority meals at Disney parks and resorts.

While this might be obvious to many, not everyone knows which Disney restaurants fill up the fastest when it comes to reservations. Having a little frame of reference on this might be extremely helpful as you’re planning your Disney dining and trying to determine what meals are high priority for you. So, I’ve prepared a little primer on which Disney restaurants are the toughest to book, along with great alternatives if you don’t happen to get your favorites!:

    1. Le Cellier

Le Cellier Steakhouse has been, for years, one of the toughest tickets in Disney World for both lunch and dinner. Seriously, I have heard Le Cellier cast members mention more than once that they’re continuously booked up for lunch and dinner 6 months in advance, with walk-up reservations rarely an option. In my opinion, this is due to three things: [Read more…]

    Kouzzina for Breakfast

I recently had the chance to dine at Kouzzina — Iron Chef Cat Cora’s signature restaurant on the Disney World Boardwalk — for breakfast! I had only had dinner at Kouzzina previously, so I couldn’t wait to see what Chef Dee Foundoukis was cooking up for breakfast. :-) Luckily, this was part of the Disney World Five Stars to Mickey Bars event, so I got to take pics of my dining companions’ food as well! Score!

    Atmosphere

Kouzzina is reminiscent of its predecessor, Spoodles, in that the expanse, high ceilings, and heavy wood decor tend to feel like a big old Mediterranean farm kitchen; but Kouzzina brought a new elegance and simple formality along with the renovation. The restaurant opened in September 2009, and I showcased several photos of the lobby, dining room, and open kitchen in my Kouzzina dinner review.

For breakfast, the restaurant was lit with sun streaming through the floor to ceiling windows and pleasant white noise came consistently from the open kitchen.
