Le Cellier Steakhouse
You remember when we analyzed the brand new Le Cellier Steakhouse Signature dinner menu a few weeks ago, right? Well, I finally had the chance to try it myself.
For those who are just tuning in, one of Disney World’s most popular restaurants, Le Cellier in Epcot’s Canada pavilion, began offering a signature dinner menu (e.g. super expensive) at the beginning of March 2011. While the restaurant remained priced at one Disney Dining Plan credit for lunch, the dinner menu cost two Disney Dining Plan credits. For those of us who don’t purchase the dining plan, that means that the dinner menu was renovated and all prices bumped up a few bucks…or more.
The decor and atmosphere at Le Cellier hasn’t changed at all. You’re still dining in a very small “cellar,” featuring candlelight sconces on the walls (not real candles, of course), rich woods and deep maroon fabrics, and stone archways creating the structure of the restaurant.
The only thing upon arrival that makes you think something might be slightly different is the presence of some snazzy new napkin rings (I’m pretty sure I’ve never seen napkin rings at a Disney World restaurant…) and candles on the tables… [Read more…]
Obviously Disney’s keen on the fact that most of us can’t make up our minds about what we want to try in their restaurants! They’ve slowly, but surely, started introducing ways for us to sample a little bit of everything — even when we’re not at a buffet.
Trios of dishes — small portions of three menu items served together as one dish — are popping up everywhere, from casual to signature dining. And while these used to be relegated to the dessert menu, we’re now seeing trios pop up in the appetizer and entree sections of the menu. Here are a few examples…
Epcot’s Le Cellier put a trio of appetizers front and center on its menu a while ago, giving guests an opportunity to sample three of their most beloved apps: Cheddar Cheese Soup, Lump Crab, and the Tomato Stack.

New Refillable Mugs
New refillable mugs for the 2011 “Let the Memories Begin” promotion are on sale now for $13.99 at your WDW resort.
Lids (and handles) are now in blue, black, yellow and pink. Yes, pink! I know a few moms that will be grabbing up the “princessy” mugs!
Make sure each member of the family gets a different lid color. That way Mom doesn’t have to sip Dad’s coffee and Dad won’t be taking unintentional gulps of Mom’s diet soda. Note that not all the resorts appear to have the black lids. Let me know which mug types you spot during your WDW resort stay!
The time has come. As we reported last August, Le Cellier is now a 2-credit, signature dining location for dinner.
The veggie entree sounds great. But what are pea tendrils? I’ve posted the full menu at the bottom of this post, but first, let’s analyze what’s different…
Menu Analysis: What’s New and What’s Staying?
Appetizers have almost completely changed out. Remaining are the cheddar cheese soup (now priced at $9 versus the previous $6.99) and the Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage with roasted corn polenta and sweet onion jam (now called “artisan” spicy chicken and chipotle sausage with roasted corn polenta and sweet onion jam, and priced at $12 instead of $9.99…that’s one pricey “artisan”).
The steakhouse caesar salad is still around, but this time it costs $9 instead of $6.99, and it has pretzel croutons versus the sourdough croutons it sported in the past.
I’m LOVING the addition of the artisinal cheese plate, of course. And there’s honeycomb, which means I’m happy as a clam.
Entrees: The basics have stayed the same. The New York Strip is still there, but now costs $42 instead of $34.99; the salmon is now Pacific King Salmon instead of [Read more…]
It’s a new year, and we wanted to walk you through the ins and outs of what’s changed and what’s stayed the same when it comes to the Disney’s Dining Plan (DDP) in 2011! Fans and critics of the DDP will notice only a few changes this year:
Standard Disney Dining Plan
- The standard DDP was $41.99 per adult per night and has been bumped to $45.99 for the value and regular seasons. The rates for kids ages 3-9 remained the same at $11.99 per night.
- Peak season 2011 rates will apply February 17-26, March 11-April 30, June 3-August 13 and December 21-31. Adult rates rose from $46.99 per night to $47.99. The nightly rate for children age 3-9 remained the same at $12.99 per night.
- For Quick-Service, Table-Service and Private In-room meals, the option to order juice at breakfast in addition to a non-alcoholic beverage was deleted. Perhaps guests were [Read more…]

I’ve been noticing a few food trends while traipsing through Disney parks, and I think they’re important to mention — especially since they seem to be popping up on every menu re-vamp out there.
First, we gotta take a gander at good old macaroni and cheese. When I asked Disney World’s Sanaa Chef Bob Getchell about the gourmet mac and cheese trend that seems to be taking over Disney restaurants, he mentioned that chefs like to make food they themselves love; many have fond memories of mac and cheese while they were growing up, and they want to create new and improved contemporary recipes for the dish. Here are a few of our favorite versions on and around Disney property:
Yacht Club Resort’s Yachtsman Steakhouse gets a nod due to a relatively new mac and cheese dish I found on the menu in October. Their truffle mac and cheese uses huge orecchiette noodles and Reypenaer cheese with a touch of truffle oil and a topping of crunchy onions. It’s served in a cast iron baking dish that lends a rustic look — very fun! The best part — it tastes amazing. Rich, tangy, creamy sauce nestles into those pasta pieces and serves as the perfect accompaniment to the meal. This is sold as a side dish only, so be sure to look for it at the bottom of the menu.
As you know, I am on a quest. I’d like to dine at every single Disney restaurant and try every single Disney “cult status” fan favorite still available today (sadly, that does not include beaver tails, RIP). I’d been doing a pretty good job at moving forward on my mission, but I had a few secrets I kept hidden — dishes I’d never, ever tried until this year, even though they were serious favorites of Disney guests the world over.
We like to be honest around here, so I’m going to start coming clean by giving you a list of a few Disney desserts I hadn’t really tried until my past few trips — along with what I thought of them. Ready? Here we go!
Yak and Yeti Fried Cream Cheese Won-tons
Once upon a time, a fun new restaurant in Disney’s Animal Kingdom called Yak and Yeti introduced a fun twist on the standard Asian won-ton. By stuffing won-ton skins with sweet cream cheese, frying them up, and pairing them with pineapples and sweet sauce, this is one non-chocolate dessert that will steal your heart and your taste buds.
Lots of folks claim that it’s not sweet enough, but I really enjoyed it. It’s a good, relatively light dessert to share, and the best part is: it suits hot days and cold days — perfect for all temps in WDW.
Le Cellier Smores
