How is Disney Doing Financially?
In terms of Disney’s financial standing, we’ve seen stock values dropping lately, so just how is the Company doing in terms of revenue? Well we got our answer recently as Disney released their earnings report for the second quarter of fiscal year 2022, and held an earnings call on the topic.
Overall, Disney reported some big revenues when it comes to their parks division, but missed some analysts’ expectations when it comes to overall revenues and earnings per share.
During the earnings call, we also got to learn some more about Star Wars Hotel availability predictions — in other words, just how FULL Disney’s executives expect the Star Wars Hotel to be for the rest of this year. Click here to see their thoughts.
We also got to hear Disney CEO Bob Chapek comment on the Park Pass reservation system and just how it has helped the Company. Click here to see his statements.
What about inflation? That’s something that has been on a lot of people’s minds lately. Well, Disney isn’t immune to inflationary concerns or supply chain issues, and they made that clear through their comments on inflation and the impact it is having on the parks. Click here to see our full post on the inflation comments.
The earnings call truly brought us a variety of updates from finances to Park Pass updates. We’ll be sure to be on the lookout for more news in the upcoming weeks and months about Disney’s financial situation, and we’ll share those all with you.
During the earnings call, we also heard some updates about Disney+. While some analysts expected Disney+ to have around 135 million subscribers (CNBC), Disney EXCEEDED those expectations and ended the quarter with 137.7 million subscribers. Click here to see more about this news.
Things could get a bit more interesting soon. While Disney+ subscriber numbers are expected to increase, Disney has shared that their net adds might not be as large as previously expected. (Variety)
In terms of other streaming news, this week we also learned that ads could come to Netflix in 2022.
An internal communication has revealed that Netflix intends to introduce this ad-supported tier within the last 3 months of the year. Between an ad-supported tier on Netflix and an ad-supported version of Disney+, more ads might be in your streaming future.
If you’ve been keeping track of the situation with COVID-19 ahead of your upcoming vacations and travels, we’ve got some updates there.

Turns out Universal Orlando and other partners have now pledged to donate a certain amount of land and money for a train station near the Orange County Convention center as part of the revised route that has been planned for the Brightline Train, under the “Sunshine Corridor” program.
When it comes to the situation with Disney World’s Reedy Creek Improvement District, we previously shared that a lawsuit had been filed by some taxpayers against the Florida Governor regarding the dissolution of the District.
