One of the BEST festivals is back at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland!
It’s the Lunar New Year Celebration that celebrates, well, the Chinese Lunar New Year. The festival brings in special entertainment, characters, and more, but most importantly, it brings in food booths with our favorite thing…FOOD (and drinks). So, we’ve visited the festival, and we’ve pretty much tasted EVERYTHING, so we’re now going to tell you about the best things we ate and drank there!
New Bests
These are our favorite items that are making their debut at the festival this year! Let’s take a look at what new items we think you need to try out.
Peach Makgeolli Cocktail from Red Dragon Spice Traders
This cocktail is made with peach rice wine, Citron vodka, ginger liqueur, cucumber syrup and white grape & lime juices. Then it is garnished with a skewered frozen peach and grape. You can get it for $18.
The flavor is this drink is incredible! We were able to taste each of the ingredients in the drink and were impressed with how well they worked together. Although, a fair warning that this drink will sneak up on you as you hardly taste the alcohol at all.
Almond Cookie Bread Pudding from Aunt Cass Café
This treat is an almond bread pudding with a gooey almond center, Mandarin orange crème anglaise, whipped topping, toasted almonds, and an almond cookie. You can grab it at Aunt Cass Café for $7.49.
We loved the texture of the bread pudding and how much almond flavor came through. The crunchiness of the toasted almonds was perfect, and we definitely wish we could buy a bag of the almond cookie on top. It was delicious and shareable, although we wouldn’t judge if you wanted to keep if all for yourself.
Legend of the Ten Spices Flatbread from Pym Test Kitchen
There is a lot going on with this flatbread! It has kung pao beef, sesame spread, toasted Bok choy, and napa cabbage served with onion-cilantro salad garnished with heirloom radish and Chile threads and you can get it for $14.99.
This flatbread is SPICY, so this won’t be a good choice if you are looking for a mild dish. However, we were SO impressed with the flavors. The number of different spices and textures was great, and they all worked really well together. The flatbread itself wasn’t too hard or too soft, and it was loaded with toppings. Be prepared for spice and lots of yummy flavors!
Strawberries and Cream Roulade at Paradise Garden Grill
This fun looking dessert is a Strawberries and Cream Roulade covered in toasted almond slices, and you can get it for $6.79.
We loved how light and fluffy this dessert was, and it had just the right amount of sweetness. We tasted lots of almond and strawberry flavor and were surprised by how much we enjoyed this dessert. We think almost anyone would be a fan of this dessert (unless, of course, you dislike almonds or strawberries).
Vietnamese Coffee Churro at Select Carts
This Vietnamese Coffee Churro is a classic churro rolled in coffee sugar topped with a bold coffee icing and sweetened condensed milk. You can find it at Churros near Goofy’s Sky School and at Señor Buzz Churros on Pixar Pier.
We love ourselves a good Disneyland churro and this one is the classic taken to the next level. It really does taste like a coffee churro and we really enjoyed it. The sweetness of the churro combined with the bitterness of the coffee flavor is the perfect combination.
Returning Bests
We definitely had a lot of new items that we really enjoyed, but there are also some returning items that you need to try!
Quesabirria Eggroll at Lucky 8 Lantern
You can grab the Quesabirria Eggroll with a guajillo pepper consomé for $9.50.
We thought the eggroll was juicy and flavorful. The consomé was also the perfect dipping sauce with a great consistency and wonderful flavor. We are a little sad the dish only comes with eggroll, but we think it is super tasty.
Shrimp Lo Mein Noodles at Longevity Noodle Co.
These Shrimp Lo Mein Noodles are served with stir-fried vegetables, and you can grab them for $9.25.
This dish has some great spice, while not being overly spicy. The flavors really work, and the salty taste of the sauce is the perfect compliment. The shrimp was cooked to perfection and each piece was perfectly seasoned. The veggies add a great brightness and freshness to the dish that we love.
Mickey Mouse-Shaped Hot Dog Bun at Select Outdoor Vending Carts
This snack is one of our must-gets every year and you can find it at select outdoor vending carts for $8. It is a brioche-style Mickey-shaped bun stuffed with hot dogs finished with sesame seeds and scallions.
This could be a great option for the kiddos or picky eaters, or just someone who is looking for a delicious treat that doesn’t have too many spices. It is basically a hot dog in a pretzel, and we think it is so tasty. We highly recommend grabbing some ketchup and mustard to dip it in!
Best Booth
In addition to the best individual food items, we also wanted to highlight our favorite booth of the fest that we think you need to check out!
Lucky 8 Lantern
We loved everything we tried at the Lucky 8 Lantern booth. The Quesabirria Eggroll was delicious; tender, juicy meat with lots of flavor and a yummy sauce. The Chocolate Firecracker was light, airy, gooey, and chocolatey. The candy shell was a great thickness and the candy on top added a fun “pop.” Finally, the Year of the Snake Margarita was a star! It tasted like a lime and mango limeade with a kick, and we were huge fans of this drink.
That’s everything we’d say was the BEST to eat and drink at the Disney California Adventure Lunar New Year Celebration. We’ll keep you updated on ALL things Disney (especially FOOD), so stay tuned to DFB for more.
