Greetings from Disney’s Old Key West Resort! This week we stopped by to check out the lunch options at The Gurgling Suitcase! The Gurgling Suitcase is a relaxing respite in Disney World, and they didn’t always serve food (though you could order from Olivia’s). But for a few years now they have their very own menu!
It’s already super hot in Florida so we were excited to swing by for a quick bite and cold drink! By the way, did you know the Gurgling Suitcase got its name from people trying to smuggle alcohol from Cuba into Key West in their luggage? Inspectors would shake the suitcases to see if the “gurgled” — hence the name The Gurgling Suitcase. Always so clever, Disney.
It’s time to make another stop into Disney’s Hollywood Studios where construction continues in earnest on three BIG projects! Plus we’ve got a little merchandise and menu update! Come along with us, superstars!
There’s progress on construction right at the entrance to Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but there’s a bit of debate about what this will be.
The cast member we spoke to this week said it’s extra bag check space in anticipation of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. [Read more…]

On December 3rd, Intermission Food Court at Disney’s All Star Music Resort reopened after a four-month long refurbishment.
We were excited to see the results, and — of course — excited to taste the food! We shared a photo tour of the whole space just after the food court reopened. But there was so much to see that we couldn’t fit it all in one post. So today we’re back at Intermission Food Court to explore the food options a little more in depth, from a full rundown of the menus to sampling a few of the items ourselves (as we so love to do!).
Still, just as a reminder, we’ll begin by taking a quick peek at the updated design of Intermission Food Court.
For those familiar with the All Star Food Courts, you’ll notice the changes immediately. First off, bold primary colors have given way to earth tones.
The larger-than-life murals of musicians are gone, but that doesn’t mean the nods to music have disappeared… they’re just more subtle. Some of my favorite features include the guitar fret wall, the “drum kit” over the beverage station, and the woodwind instruments surrounding the Singing Spirits Bar.
And, of course, some Disney pals have joined in on the fun, too…
But now it’s time to explore the food options a little more in depth, so here we go!
Let’s take the food court station by station… and grab a bite or two while we’re at it ;). We aimed to get a small sampling from each station — or “shop” — on our visit, but I don’t want to miss the chance to point out the Pizza and Pasta Shop, which was one station we didn’t try.
So, yeah, there’s pizza here ;). Or you can grab a Hot Italian Sub. The pasta might be the more noteworthy option, though, since [Read more…]

During my recent stay at Walt Disney World’s Bay Lake Tower, I did my usual arrival-time scan of the room: lights work (check), TV works (check), hangers in the closet (check), room service menu on the table … whaaaaat? No room service menu?
I don’t often get room service, AKA Private Dining, during my Disney visits (there’s soooo much yum to eat out in the parks and restaurants), but sometimes at the end of a long day of park hopping, room service is exactly what you need. Plus I was visiting with my husband for our 20th wedding anniversary, so, you know. Anywhoooo, I was a little confused when I didn’t immediately see the room service menu in its familiar place on the table.
As it turns out, the menu was there all along, just in an entirely different format. The previous room service menus were oversized and made of sturdy card stock.
The new menu is hiding among a bundle of pamphlets and information in an all new guest check-in presentation folder. See it there, third item down on the left.
The new menu is smaller, with smaller print, but in my opinion, the [Read more…]

Hey Pop Century fans — we’ve got NEWS!!
Here’s a heads up for upcoming Pop Century Resort guests at Walt Disney World — the Everything Pop Food Court menu has been updated with significant changes. Let’s take a look…
Most of our favorites are still on the morning menu including the popular POP Waffle with fruit topping (unfortunately, it’s now at a higher price :-().
The chocolate chip pancakes, breakfast pizza, breakfast wrap, and breakfast potatoes did not survive the cuts. A potato casserole is now being offered as a side dish.
New breakfast entrees include: a biscuit with sausage gravy and scrambled eggs; empanada puff pastry; corned beef hash; and new omelet choices (Southwest, Floridian, Italian, and Vegetable).
We have also spotted a Create-Your-Own Yogurt Parfait, Spanish Quiche, and Breakfast Burrito. Most of these items are also available on the Kids’ Menus.
Instead of an “Omelet of the Day”, there’s now a [Read more…]

Today we’ve got some sneak peeks to share about Flo’s V-8 Cafe, part of the upcoming Cars Land in Disneyland Resort’s Disney California Adventure. AND we have some fun menu news out of the Animal Kingdom in Disney World! Let’s go…
Reminiscent of the small cafes along Route 66, Flo’s V-8 is slated to serve comfort food…including pies!
And the DisneyParks Blog just revealed a few of the pies that will be offered at Flo’s V-8!! These include… Dutch Apple-Cheddar (yum), Strawberry Rhubarb (yum), Mississippi Mud (double yum), and blueberry (yum)!!

One of the newest additions to my home library is Menu Design in America, a lavishly illustrated history of, you guessed it, menu design in America.
This book is a fabulous resource for any student of food history or graphic design, but as a Disney foodie my favorite page is the one dedicated to the commissary breakfast menu at Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, circa 1942.
The grumpy Donald on the cover is a nice comic touch, giving a sense that Disney was a fun place to work right from the start. “Good Morning!,” shouts an unseen lark. “What’s good about it?,” replies Donald. Maybe they were only serving Nescafe 🙂
The menu items are both educational and amusing. Buttermilk as a standard beverage! Coffee for a nickel! Pound cake as a breakfast item! Stewed prunes, my grandma’s favorite!
And I was left with some questions: [Read more…]
