Walt Disney World Resort President Jeff Vahle recently spoke at the Orlando Business Journal‘s annual Power Breakfast and shared quite a bit about the parks, Cast Members, and the upcoming opening of Universal’s Epic Universe.

Luckily, Vahle doesn’t seem too concerned about the impact of Epic Universe on Disney World.
Cast Member unions have finally reached an agreement with Disney, which the service trades council announced on March 23rd. The council is made up of six unions that represent Disney World employees.
Unite Here Local 362 announces a new contract proposal for Disney World Cast Members.
The unions have been in talks with Disney for a long time now, with the main issue being wages. Disney gave an offer in February of this year that union members overwhelmingly voted to reject, and the unions said that negotiations stopped after Disney “refused to add even one cent to its wage proposal.” Now, after negotiations recently resumed, an agreement has been reached and Walt Disney World President Jeff Vahle released a statement about it. A bill to CHANGE Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID) has nearly been passed by the Florida legislature.

The current RCID essentially allowed Disney World to function as its own government for over 50 years. But following Disney’s disagreement with Ron DeSantis over Florida’s Parental Rights in Education Bill (commonly called the “Don’t Say Gay” bill), the District was set to be dissolved in June of 2023. A new bill was introduced recently that would keep RCID in place but rename the district and significantly change Disney’s level of control. The situation with Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District is really starting to heat up.

The District was previously set to be dissolved on June 1st, but a special session of the Florida legislature that began on February 6th will address the District’s future. On February 6th, a bill was filed that gives a much clearer picture as to what the revised District could look like, and now Disney has finally spoken out on the issue.
