We spotted something super fun in Hollywood Studios yesterday!
Fans of the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean are gonna love this! We found a mash-up mug that’s going to be on your must-get list for sure.
New Orleans Square
is one of our favorite areas of Disneyland Resort — and not just because it’s the home of Cafe Orleans, where we happily nosh on three of our top Disney Parks eats: the Monte Cristo sandwich, Pommes Frites with amazing Spicy Cajun Remoulade, and Mickey-Shaped beignets (which we can finally enjoy at Walt Disney World, too!).
New Orleans Square also happens to be the location of two of the park’s most iconic rides: Pirates of the Caribbean and the Haunted Mansion. And it’s these must-do attractions that have been immortalized as only Starbucks can: on a You Are Here Mug!
Just in time for its 50th anniversary, Pirates of the Caribbean in Disneyland reopens with NEW LIMITED TIME FOOD items!

After a six-week refurbishment, the Pirates of the Caribbean reopened to guests on June 8th. We’ll talk about that in a second, but first…THE FOOD!
Available for a limited time until June 18, Blue Bayou will be offering these special Pirates of the Caribbean inspired eats!

ARRRRR
ye lookin’ for some treasure, matey? Because if ye be, there’s plenty to be plundered (or, you know, politely purchased by the usual means ;-D ) at the Pirates of the Caribbean 50th Anniversary Celebration in Disneyland’s New Orleans Square!
This Saturday, March 18th, marks the official anniversary, so these special treats are only available for a VERY limited time! Let’s start – with the help of our favorite west coast Pirate, Heather Sievers — with the most glittering jewel of the bunch… the Golden Churro! [Read more…]

This coming Saturday, March 18, 2017, marks a very special anniversary: the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction will celebrate 50 years. And lucky for us landlubbers, we’re invited to join the party in Disneyland with special entertainment, merchandise, and FOOD!!
Starting this Thursday, March 16th, specialty food items will be available at several restaurants for the occasion, and we’ll be listing those in a moment. But we’ve simply GOT to start with one item in pARRRR-ticular (see what I did there?): GOLD-DUSTED CHURROS are coming to Disneyland for the celebration! [Read more…]
AHOY
, me mateys!
Are ye ready to join us for some grub and grog while we check out the updated menu over at Tortuga Tavern?
We let you all know a couple of months back that a new menu was being introduced at this seasonally-open spot in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland. Granted, it wasn’t a huge surprise at the time, considering that Pecos Bill Tall Tale Inn and Café had also debuted a new Mexican-based menu of its own that greatly resembled the Tavern’s previous menu.
These days when you find the Tavern open, you’ll instead find barbecue options. Which makes total sense because everyone knows that pirates love nothing more than feasting on brisket and Texas toast or veggie salads while taking a break from all their pirate-y adventures. (I know, I know, there IS some great BBQ in the Caribbean. ;-D)
Either way, it’s time to step back into this hangout for land-bound pirates once more. Goodness knows it’s rarely serving, so we need to get it while the gettin’s good! [Read more…]
Disney Food Blog Editor Kim L. reports on some of the behind-the-scenes magic you may never see on the Disney Cruise Line!
On one of my Disney voyages, I had the opportunity to tour the Kitchen Galley aboard the Disney Magic. During this behind-the-scenes sneak peek at culinary magic, I gained even more respect for the dining staff — they make it possible for passengers to dine (around the clock) on delicious cuisine.
Let’s take a look at how food is prepared — in massive quantities — on the Disney Cruise Line’s Disney Magic Ship!
How do things work in the Galley?
This particular galley anchored between Lumiere’s and Parrot Cay restaurants has a serving team of 225 people.
Among this large staff, there are 7 Chefs de Cuisine, 120 Cooks, 50 Galley Stewards (they keep the prep areas clean), and a 6 person team in the Dish Cleaning area. Plus, a Fish Prep Room is downstairs. Three section heads oversee each area including Veggie, Fish, Meat, and Sauce Prep Stations. While guests are on Castaway Cay, there is a 10:30 a.m. inspection by the Captain.
And I feel [Read more…]
Read about one of the best nights in Heather’s life! Our Dining in Disneyland columnist shares all the details from the
Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides World Premiere in Disneyland!!
Last Saturday, I had one of the best nights of my life. It was literally that fun. I went for the food, but stayed for the movie… . Or wait did I go for the movie and stay for the food. Either way, I was happily stuffed by the end of the event. Mix a little Johnny Depp with a great meal, awesome snacks, and fun friends & well, it’s perfection.
The World Premiere of Pirates of the Caribbean On Stranger Tides was held at Disneyland on Saturday, May 7th, 2011. A few months back when Disneyland announced they’d be selling a limited number of tickets to the event that benefited the Boy & Girls Clubs of America, I immediately knew what I was getting my husband for his birthday. There’s [Read more…]

Ye come seekin’ adventure with salty ol’ pirates, eh? Sure you’ve come to the proper place. But keep a weather eye open mates, and hold on tight. With both hands, if you please.
Ah, yes. We’re headed to the Blue Bayou. All jazzy New Orleans Square on the outside and dreaded pirates on the inside, these are some of the most coveted tables in Disneyland.
Coming in from the busy New Orleans Square Royal Street outside (those little winding alleyways make it seriously congested in NOS!), Blue Bayou is like a hushed hive of activity. From the lobby, you can only catch a glimpse of shadows scurrying everywhere underneath the Chinese lanterns of the restaurant. The rest looks like sheer blackness — pitch dark.
After giving your name to the reservations CM (hopefully you made an ADR — Blue Bayou is one of the only Disneyland restaurants for which a reservation is practically a necessity), take some time to peek around the lobby. Take in the incredible detailing of the walls, windows, and ceiling. Every inch of Disneyland is packed with [Read more…]

There are a couple of dining spots in Disney World that seem to always be closed — at least when I’m there — and El Pirata y El Perico is one of them!
Located near Pirates of the Caribbean in Magic Kingdom’s Adventureland, El Pirata y El Perico (The Pirate and The Parrot) is themed to represent a Caribbean village eatery, and with dark woods, beautiful tiles, and mosaics, it seems to be an extension of the ride itself!

It is considered to be “open seasonally,” which can mean just about anything! In the past several years, it’s occasionally been open during Disney’s busy seasons (summer and Christmas season), and most often serves counter-service meals. Usually the restaurant serves Mexican food, including tacos and taco salads (see the DisneyWorld.com Magic Kingdom dining page for this description), but the day I was there, the restaurant was standing in for the closed-for-refurbishment Pecos Bill’s Tall Tale Inn and Cafe next door. Thus the menu below displays foods better associated with that establishment.

The open-air seating areas are the perfect place to relax and take a break from the Florida heat. Even when the restaurant isn’t open, a lot of these seating areas are still accessible for relaxing and people-watching.

When I was wandering around taking photos, the restaurant was actually just about to open believe it or not. Because it was “standing in” for Pecos Bill’s, there was a “fixin’s bar” for the burgers:
Have you ever eaten at El Pirata y El Perico when it was serving its Mexican menu? What did you think? Let me know via facebook, twitter, or email! Also let me know of places that never seem to be open when you’re in Disney!
