Disney Gift Guide: Disney Cookbooks!

There’s something completely awesome about finding one of my favorite Disney recipes and reproducing it at home.

After all, I can’t be at the parks everyday, so it’s a real treat to reproduce a little of that Disney magic right in my own kitchen!

Disney Cookbooks for the Whole Family

If you love cooking as much as you love eating (or you know someone who does), then today’s gift guide is just for you! We’re compiling some of our all-time favorite Disney cookbooks into one handy post for your perusing pleasure. Let’s get started!

Chef Mickey: Treasures From the Vault & Delicious New Favorites

Chef Mickey: Treasures From the Vault & Delicious New Favorites by Pam Brandon and the Disney Chefs has to be one of our favorite Disney cookbooks to date! The book features more than 150 recipes from Walt Disney World, Disneyland, and Disney Cruise Line.

Chef Mickey Treasures From the Vault

But in addition to wonderfully classic dishes, like Steak Diane from the Lake Buena Vista Club, you’ll also find a collection of vintage photographs, including some of Walt Disney himself!

Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook: Most Popular Recipes From Walt Disney World & Disneyland

One of our staff favorites, Mickey’s Gourmet Cookbook: Most Popular Recipes From Walt Disney World & Disneyland by the Disney Book Group is a volume that we find ourselves pulling off the shelf time and again for vintage recipes, as well as current favorites!

Mickey

In fact, before it was available in bookstores, this book sold over 300,000 copies in the parks alone!

Delicious Disney

Published in 2006, Delicious Disney by Pam Brandon and the Disney Chefs is chock-full of your favorite recipes from restaurants throughout the parks, resorts, and cruise ships.

Delicious Disney

The book also includes lots of full-color photos that help to ensure your dish turns out just right!

Cooking With Mickey: The Most Requested Recipes from Walt Disney World and Disneyland

This one has been a fan favorite for years! With several editions, the Cooking With Mickey: Most Requested Recipes books offer several great recipes from decades of Disney dishes. Be sure to grab one with the original plastic comb binding!

Cooking With Mickey and the Chefs of Disney

224 pages of Mickey’s finest! This is another book that contains recipes from Disney World restaurants and chefs. This was one of the original Disney Resort cookbooks!

Published in 1998, this may not have your most recent favorites, but it will most definitely have the classics. This is a more straightforward cookbook and doesn’t have as many glossy photos as the others do. Those of you who find it distracting to flip through endless pages of photos to get to your recipe will love this one! For more up to date recipes, there’s a new version of this cookbook published in 2004

Disney Recipe: Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie From the Boardwalk Bakery

And now…a recipe for a super-interesting new dessert in Disney World!

When the brand new BoardWalk Bakery reopened earlier this year, we were there bright and early on the very first morning to bring you a full account of what was new, and what was returning.

And while we found many brand new things to love, like the Lemon Meringue Tart (sigh), one of our top pics was the Peanut Butter, Banana, and Candied Bacon Pie!

Sounds pretty keen, doesn’t it?

Recipe: Eats From the Epcot Food and Wine Festival Cranberry Bog

Welp, the awesome 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival is coming to a close! It’s been a great 45 days of eats, treats, drinks and, of course, cranberries. ;-)

Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog at the Epcot Food and Wine Festival

The Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog was back again this year! You’ll remember the fun we had IN the BOG last year, and we got the chance again this year to traipse around in the berries for a bit…and sample some super yum eats…

Cocktail Party set up INSIDE the bog :-)

…and drinks!

Vodka, Cranberries, and Dancing Water!

And while we bid a fond farewell to the festival and that awesome Bog for another year, I thought it would be fun to share a great, wintry recipe that might carry the Festival fun through another couple of months for you! ;-) Cranberries (and CHEEZ!!!) are highlighted, of [Read more…]

DIY Disney Recipe: Breakfast Pizza from Disney World’s Chef Mickey’s Restaurant

Chef Mickey’s at the Contemporary Resort in Walt Disney World serves up a breakfast buffet with “character” each morning. Welcome back guest chef Carol E. with a Do It Yourself Recipe for Chef Mickey’s Breakfast Pizza!

One of my favorite Disney pictures ever taken took place at a meal we had at Chef Mickey’s Restaurant inside the Contemporary Resort.

In our pictures, Pluto literally was eating my husband and Dale was fluffing up my hair…the looks on our faces were priceless. (Editor’s Note: Chip ‘n Dale are no longer appearing at Chef Mickey’s.)

This meal was definitely worth the price of admission thanks to all of our wonderful pictures and time that we got to spend with our favorite Disney friends! It’s also one of the rare places that you can actually get your picture taken with Mickey and Minnie together!

Kids love this place, because not only are Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, Goofy, and Donald Duck there to hang out with you, but the buffet is filled with a ton of kid friendly favorites!

Pluto!

Mickey and Minnie!

Breakfast is also a fun time to enjoy this unique restaurant! If you’ve been, you know one of the famous dishes on the buffet during breakfast with Mickey and friends is the classic Chef Mickey’s Breakfast Pizza! The creaminess of the eggs and the blend of cheeses make you feel like you are eating cheese fondue on a pizza. While kids love this dish, it also can be an adult favorite, too.

Well, I’m excited to tell you that Disney [Read more…]

Disney Recipe: Nudel Gratin from Epcot’s Germany Pavilion

It’s time for another delicious Disney recipe! And this one is seriously a MUST-TRY for any cheese addicts out there.

When it comes to Eating Around the World, an awesome family destination is the Germany Pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase. Their Biergarten Restaurant will trick you into thinking you’ve hopped a plane for Bavaria.

And a bounty of brand new delights await you if you haven’t been to Sommerfest, their counter service spot, in a while.

One of my favorite dishes on the Biergarten buffet is the amazing Nudel Gratin. This is one of the best versions of macaroni and cheese that I’ve ever tasted in my life.

So when it popped up on the Sommerfest menu, we had to try it.

But even better — now, I can make it between trips to Walt Disney World, thanks to this recipe! I know what we’re having for dinner tonight! :-)

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Review: Sweet Sundays with Celebrity Chef Carla Hall

DFB reporter James Armstrong recently attended Sweet Sundays with celebrity chef Carla Hall (co-host of The Chew and Top Chef Alum) during the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! Let’s check out his review!

The two hour event was divided up into two parts: the first hour consisted of the Sunday Brunch and the second was the celebrity chef demonstration. Upon arrival at 9:30am, we lined up for our table assignments. Doors opened promptly at 10am.

Table assignments

Each assigned table sat approximately six guests with seats on a first come first serve basis. The tables were set with pre-made yogurt parfaits and orange juice.

Once most of the guests had arrived, waiters began escorting each table to the buffet in an orderly “one table at a time” fashion.

Buffet overview

Buffet

Sweet Sundays Brunch

The brunch portion of the event started with some standard buffet items — croissants and strawberry cheese danish. They were good but there was nothing exceptional about them. The croissant was flaky and buttery.

Overview of buffet

There was also fresh raspberries and blueberries [provided by Driscoll’s one of the Festival sponsors]. They were very sweet and at the height of their ripeness.

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Recipe: Clam Chowder from the Hops & Barley Marketplace Booth

We have another delicious dish for you today from the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival! It’s time for some CHOWDAH!!!

One of our favorite creamy soups is featured at the Hops & Barley Marketplace Booth in Epcot’s America Pavilion. Traditional New England Clam Chowder, with its creamy, potato-based goodness, is the perfect meal for sweater weather.

And since sweaters probably aren’t what you’ll be wearing if you have this dish at Walt Disney World, we’re giving you the recipe today so you can make it once you get home!

Epcot Food and Wine Festival Recipe: Boeuf Bourguignon (Braised Short Ribs in Cabernet with Mashed Potatoes)

It’s time for another fantastic recipe inspired by the 2013 Epcot Food and Wine Festival!

As most of you know, beef short ribs are enjoying a bit of a moment on menus across the country these days. And there are no shortage of preparations for this hearty cut of beef at Disney.

France Marketplace Booth

This year, the popular dish returned to the France Marketplace booth’s menu after a bit of a hiatus, and is given a decidedly French twist!

France Short Ribs at Epcot Food and Wine Festival

This is a great recipe to try as the air turns crisp and the days grow shorter. And this version is given good body by shredding the meat and adding pearl onions and mushrooms.

DIY Disney Recipe: Elderflower Cocktail

If you spend any time checking out the menus of Disney restaurants, you’ll notice that St. Germain Liqueur is popping up a lot these days!

And with good reason! St. Germain is a French liqueur that’s made from elderflowers. The delicate, sweet taste is very unique and seems to be taking Disney World by storm.

Elderflower Cocktail with Pansy Garnish at Raglan Road

We’ve recently had Elderflower Cocktails at the Epcot Flower and Garden Festival (where it’s made with elderflower syrup) as well as for brunch at Raglan Road.

With flavors that remind me of grapefruit and honey, this liqueur makes for a lovely warm weather cocktail. So for a recent family gathering, we decided to give it a try!

St. Germain Cocktail, Three Ways

We opted for the small, 50 ml bottles of liqueur. Actually, the store was out of the larger bottles, or that’s the way that we would have gone! A little pricey, but sooo worth it.

The bottles [Read more…]
