Disneyland’s Homemade Candy Canes — Reserve Ticket Required!

Disneyland’s homemade candy canes are a Christmas tradition… so much so that you now have to get a reserve ticket to buy one! This holiday delicacy is returning to Disneyland’s Candy Palace this Friday.

According to the OC Register:

This year, the Candy Palace on Disneyland’s Main Street is issuing tickets so park guests can reserve candy canes ahead of time, avoiding the massive lines that mark candy cane day at the Palace every Christmas.

Disneyland-goers can find out when candy canes are being made by calling a special phone number, updated each Sunday with information about what kind of candy is being made each day that week. The Candy Kitchen Menu line is 714-781-0112.

A couple of very exciting news items to start out with this week!

First: have you heard about the new Surf’s Up! character meal in Disneyland? There aren’t a lot of details yet, but we’ve posted a few of the offerings as posted on the @DisneylandNews twitter account.

Also: Fulton’s Crab House is hosting a Holiday Wine Dinner on December 13th. The dinner is $49.95 and begins at 7 PM. Call 407-934-2628 for reservations.

Also, remember when I posted an interview with Dawn Viola, a National Pie Champion, Orlando chef, and volunteer Disney sous chef? She was recently highlighted on the news in Orlando as a featured chef — there’s even a great video where she demonstrates the secrets to making her blue-ribbon-winning Apple Pie! Congrats, Dawn!

New Surf’s Up! Breakfast with Mickey & Friends at Disneyland’s PCH Grill

Exciting news! Starting December 11th, 2009, the Aloha Breakfast with Lilo and Stitch will switch to Surf’s Up! Breakfast with Mickey and Friends!

According to @DisneylandNews on twitter:

Beginning Dec. 11, the character breakfast at Disney’s PCH Grill will change to “Surf’s Up! Breakfast with Mickey & Friends.” New breakfast buffet will include flatbreads from a wood burning oven & signature chilaquiles with shredded beef, salsa verde & queso fresco.

Sounds good to us!

Thanksgiving is one week from today, so for those of you who are thinking about heading to Disney for the big day (and saving yourself from some serious dish washing!), I’ve gathered a few Thanksgiving-y and Food-y posts and links for you!

Disney Thanksgiving News and Info Round-Up

1. Wondering where to have your Thanksgiving dinner at Disney? Head over to our Disney Food Blog post about the Best Restaurants for Thanksgiving in Disney World, where we post the winners of our reader poll on the topic.

2. Of course, many Disney restaurants offer special Thanksgiving meals for the holiday, and Disney Moms Panelist, Erin Foster, was kind enough to share the menus from her special holiday last year. This might give you an idea of what to expect in Disney restaurants for Thanksgiving dinner:

3. DReport’s Soft Opening blog reports that Tomorrowland Terrace Noodle Station, El Pirata y El Perico, and the Diamond Horseshoe will be serving during Thanksgiving week.

Meet The World in Progressland shares a truly wonderful post revealing some incredible Halloween Disney details in Tokyo Disneyland’s popcorn carts.

Main Street Gazette showcases the Animal Kingdom’s Royal Anadapur Tea Company — one of my favorite places to have breakfast in the World.

5 Kingdoms compares the different “Casey’s Corners” throughout the Magic Kingdoms. Take time to read it and not just look at the pictures 😉

The Disney Chick is back with another wonderful Disney recipe, complete with photos of each separate recipe step. This time, try out the Shrimp With Tomato Feta Compote from Citricos in the Grand Floridian Resort and Spa.

On to the round-up, I’m amazed every week by the number of fun Disney food posts there are around the web. I’m so lucky to have found each and every one of these blogs and videos, and I hope you’ll benefit from (and bookmark!) these great sites. Lots of great information here this week… Away we go!

One of my favorite baking blogs, Cookie Madness, headed to Disney World a couple of weeks ago and returned with a fantastic trip report complete with photos from Citricos and Yachtsman Steakhouse. Also, be sure to check out her post about the S’mores Fudge from the Main Street Confectionery!

Everything Walt Disney World has an information-packed review of where to go to get groceries around Disney World, including a great FAQ about grocery delivery!

Okay, this one is from September, but I just found it and had to include (I LOVE this blog). So, Watch Me Eat spends some time at the Yak and Yeti Local Foods Cafe quick-service spot in Animal Kingdom. I love that they serve your food in take-out containers here.

The Disney Blog announces that Stone Crab Season has begun at Fulton’s! There’s even a special menu…

If you love chocolate cake, you’ll love this! The Mouse For Less has a fun article where 12-year-old chocolate cake critic, Max, rates five different Disney World chocolate cakes on a scale of one to ten!

Have $375 to burn on a great New Year’s Eve event? Disney Parks Blog announces the Victoria and Albert’s New Year’s Eve experience, beginning this year. Sounds divine…

The Orange County Register’s Around Disney Blog reports that Hook’s Pointe in the Disneyland Hotel has re-branded to become the only seafood-focused dining spot in Disneyland. The blog also posts a great round-up of where to find halloween treats and desserts in Disneyland!

Domestic Debacle posts photos and a review of the Polynesian Resort Spirit of Aloha Luau show.

Mommy Musings has a superb bunch of Party for the Senses Photos from the week celebrating “Classical Cuisine.”

In the Orlando Sentinel’s Daily Disney Blog (this is a new blog that’s in beta for the OS — very cool), Heather McPherson shares the recipe for Citricos’ Onion Tart.

etckt has a fun description of Hoop Dee Doo Revue, accompanied by a list-o-facts about the dinner show.

Finally, a couple of fun videos for you this week!

Chef Brian Piasecki, currently presiding over the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill, demonstrates the recipe for Le Cellier‘s Cheddar Cheese Soup in this cool video!

Food Post Weekly Round-Up: September 19, 2009

LOADS of food posts this week! Everyone must be as excited as I am about the Food and Wine Festival starting on Friday and writing subconcious food posts as a result!

Before we begin, the big Disney Food news this week includes the grand opening of Kouzzina, the Wishes Dessert Party extension through January 2, 2010, and the D23 Expo reveal of upcoming Magic Kingdom Fantasyland restaurants! Be sure to check out these stories if you haven’t already.

And now, here we go!

The LA Times reports a new food stop in Disneyland that will open September 25th, and serve turkey legs, chimichangas, and corn on the cob.

The Orlando Sentinel shares a fantastic grand opening Kouzzina photo gallery and restaurant review.

The Orange County Register reports the resignation of Michael Jordan, Master Sommelier and General Manager of Disneyland’s Napa Rose.

The Touring Plans Blog asks “Does Free Dining Always Save You Money?” and comes up with some intriguing results.

Disney Food Blog facebook fan Scott Dickison posted a photo and some info about the new shrimp platter dish at Columbia Harbor House in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. The meal is $9.69, and comes with fries and coleslaw.

The WED Page remembers The Empress Lily Riverboat character meal, complete with great photos!

PRD3000’s Revenge at 50’s Prime Time Cafe: Finding a way to “fight back” after being stuck in the corner singing “I’m a Little Teapot” for putting elbows on the table. Talk about needing a fastpass for the bathroom… .

WatchMeEat Tries Out Lottawatta Lodge at Blizzard Beach: Most of this post is about Blizzard Beach (which many of you will find interesting, I’m sure), but if you just want to see food, scroll down for pics. Great review of Blizzard Beach, to boot!

Kevin Kidney Details the History of Disneyland’s Birthday Cake Room: While it may be a stretch to include on a food blog, this is a really interesting article for you Disney history nuts out there. At least it has “Birthday Cake” in the title.
