For most people, rope-dropping a Disney World park means making a beeline for a popular ride. But in EPCOT, we’ve got a surprising spot at the top of our priority list!

In Disney terminology “rope-dropping” means being at the park right when it opens. Usually, guests at the park for rope drop will use this time to head straight for one of the most popular rides, with the hope of getting in line before the wait times climb super high. But hear us out — in EPCOT, there’s a restaurant you might want to rope drop instead of an attraction!

Rope dropping can be really popular!
The term rope drop can mean different things for different people, but typically, rope dropping is when you are in the park, past the turnstiles, BEFORE the park opens. Usually, people arrive about an hour prior to park open to ensure that they are at the rope in front of each of the lands. Believe it or not, at some parks there is a physical rope that keeps you from going into parts of the parks where the attractions are. This rope is then dropped when the park opens. Unfortunately, even the pros make rope drop mistakes, and these are four unfortunate things that always happen to us when we rope drop!

Lines for several fan-favorite attractions can quite literally be HOURS long, and Disney’s skip-the-line service, Genie+, doesn’t always fit everybody’s budget. We typically recommend rope dropping each of the Disney World parks to hit those super popular attractions early in the day. Rope dropping is when you show up to the parks as soon as they’re open in order to be among the first people on a ride or attraction. This “hack” allows you a shorter wait in most cases, so that you aren’t spending your whole day waiting in line. While we totally recommend this trick for people visiting three of the Disney World parks, there’s one park that makes us feel a little hesitant when recommending the rope drop strategy.
