“You Won’t Believe This!” Snack: Cottontop Tamarin Cupcake

It’s been a while since we had a new cupcake for you, but this one’s a doozey!! (Is that how you spell “doozey?”)

You remember the White Chocolate Elephant cupcake and the Zebra cupcake, right? Well, joining its furry friends is the new Cottontop Tamarin cupcake at Kusafiri Bakery near Kilimanjaro Safaris in Harambe Village! You can also find this sweet treat at the Coffee Kiosk at the entrance to Discovery Island.

Pastry Chef Andreas Born blended both white and dark chocolate to create the cute (weird?) little Cottontop Taramin face. The mold sits atop a generous layer of butter cream. Underneath that is [Read more…]

Secret Spots: Writer’s Stop

This is my favorite place in Disney World. (Well, this and the Carolwood Pacific Room at Wilderness Lodge, but since that doesn’t have any food, I have to defer to Writer’s Stop.) Food…books…writing…it’s everything that I love all tucked away into a corner of Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

And I put it under the “Secret Spots” banner because so many folks have told me that they’ve never heard of or seen it — but I’m almost positive it’ll become one of your favorite places as soon as you spend a leisurely 30 minutes sipping coffee and reading books in this wonderful little store.

Atmosphere
This is essentially a Disney-fied coffee shop and bookstore. It was originally placed in Hollywood Studios (back when the park was still Disney-MGM Studios) to promote ABC’s Ellen sit-com, representing her book store in the show, “Buy the Book.” The ceiling is still covered with television studio lights as though the shop itself is a TV set, and for quite a while one could find remnants of Ellen strategically placed throughout the store (scripts, etc.). Check out this Studios Central link for an up-close look at these remaining set items! Once Ellen petered out in the late 90’s, the shop survived and [Read more…]

“You Won’t Believe This Snack!”: Carrot Cake Cookie

The Writer’s Stop is an unassuming little bookstore. It offers comfy chairs and couches, books lining the walls from floor to ceiling, every coffee drink you can dream of…and baked goods. That’s right, this is another location in Disney’s Hollywood Studios harboring a “You Won’t Believe This!” Snack!

While most folk just wander right past this little corner store on their way to the American Idol Experience, Toy Story Mania, or Tower of Terror, there are a few of us who feel the call of the item that has made The Writer’s Stop famous: the Carrot Cake Cookie.

Speaking of unassuming, you can’t even see the Carrot Cake Cookie in the bakery counter display. It’s shrouded in a [Read more…]

“You Won’t Believe This!” Snack: Zebra Cupcake

So guess what I had to try — and add to our “You Won’t Believe This!” Snack Series — when I went to Disney World in April?

Guys, this Zebra cupcake is massive. Its construction is akin to one of our favorites [Read more…]

Breakfasts of Champions: Cinnamon Rolls in Disney World and Disneyland

What makes a better relaxing breakfast than a cinnamon roll? Luckily, Disney World and Disneyland have you covered — each in their own special way. Here are a couple of my favorite “breakfasts of champions” that include cinnamon roll goodness at our favorite Disney parks.

Disney World

First off, we’ll start in Walt Disney World at Magic Kingdom’s Main Street Bakery:

Main Street Bakery

Here, you can find one of Disney World’s most beloved treats, the Main Street Bakery cinnamon roll. You can find this monstrous pastry (seriously — it’s giant — consider sharing) at the end of the bakery line, where they’ll scoop the thing onto a plate and then — this is the best part — add another scoop of melt-y, cinnamon-y frosting on top!!! I couldn’t believe it when I first saw that. I love when Disney doesn’t short me on extravagance.

Snack Series: Paw Print Brownie

One of the newer snacks available in Disney World is the paw print brownie, which you can find in Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Once there, head up to the Africa section of the park — tucked back into Harambe village, next to Tusker House Restaurant, you’ll find Kusafiri Bakery!

Kusafiri Bakery in Disney's Animal Kingdom

Kusafiri used to be part of the Tusker House Restaurant, but with recent renovations, it’s taken its own tiny little piece of real estate. And to create an even more significant stamp of independence, it’s developed three incredible and exclusively sold snacks: the White Chocolate Elephant Cupcake, the Zebra Cupcake (which we’ll be highlighting on the food blog in the near future), and today’s decadent snack — the Paw Print Brownie:

Animal Kingdom Paw Print Brownie

This one is a lot like another of our favorite snacks — the White Chocolate Chip Brownie — but with an added layer of lard-y, fatty, sugary frosting on top!! They’ve started out with [Read more…]
