MagicBands have long been a staple for vacations at Walt Disney World, but Disneyland never had them…until now!
When Disney announced that MagicBand+ would be the next generation of MagicBands, they also revealed that the technology would FINALLY be coming to Disneyland Resort. The new bands have been available in Disney World for a while now, but they are officially launching at Disneyland TODAY. So, come along with us as we check them out!
What Is MagicBand+?
MagicBands are bands you wear on your wrist that give you access to a ton of different features in the parks and resorts. They can act as your ticket, scan you into Lightning Lanes, connect to PhotoPass, and more.
We know that MagicBand+ will offer “a range of hands-free conveniences and immersive experiences” in Disneyland, like interacting with certain entertainment at Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure…
…and interacting with nighttime spectaculars. The band will sync with moments during the shows, like World of Color in Disney California Adventure park and Fantasmic! in Disneyland park. They will also work with the new nighttime shows coming to Disneyland Resort— “World of Color — One” and “Wondrous Journeys” when they debut in January 2023.
You’ll also be able to play the Batuu Bounty Hunters game in Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, too!
Now, let’s talk about what designs are available!
What MagicBand+ Designs Are Available
Note that MagicBand+ isn’t officially available until October 26, 2022, but Eligible Magic Key Holders, Cast Members, and Disney Vacation Club Members have been able to purchase MagicBand+ at Disneyland Resort for a few days now, and can use their regular discounts.
MagicBand+ designs start at $34.99 and can go all the way up to $54.99. As of today, there are 20 different colors and designs — this includes five exclusive Disneyland Resort prints! Note that a MagicBand+ bought in Disneyland will work in Disney World, and vice versa. However, the old MagicBands from Disney World will not work in Disneyland.
Here’s a peek at those Disneyland exclusive designs. There’s one with Disneyland Fireworks…

…and Walt and Mickey!
Also, note that Magic Key Holders can get $10 off an exclusive MagicBand+ design while supplies last. You can find this design at Starcade in Disneyland Park, Super Store Featuring Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure, and the building adjacent to Star Wars Trading Post in Downtown Disney.
Using MagicBand+ in the Parks
Now, let’s test out these new bands! First, we’re heading over to Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to play the Batuu Bounty Hunters game! You start by visiting the Bounty Board in that land!
You’ll need the Play Disney Parks app to play. Here we are!
You’ll tap your MagicBand+ on the medallion to start a job.
Your MagicBand+ will then light up, signaling to you whether your bounty is close. Red lights mean you’re moving further away, and green means you’re getting closer!
When the light on your MagicBand+ turns purple, you’ve found the target.
Scan the door with your Thermal Viewer (in the app) to identify the target.
Then collect your credits at the Guildmaster’s Hideout! If that sounds confusing, don’t worry — the app will walk you through the whole process!
We’ll continue to update this post as we use MagicBand+ throughout the day in Disneyland, so stay tuned! For now, you can check out some Disneyland news, like which Star Wars experience just got more expensive in Disneyland, the recent price increase on Disneyland Tickets, and the price increase for Genie+ at Disneyland Resort.
Stay tuned to DFB for more Disney news and updates.

Can you use just your normal magic band at Disneyland
Hi Rachelle! Unfortunately, no.
This tech (for admission) has been around for 2 1/2 decades. Why hasn’t Disneyland embraced the NFC ticket system yet?
That’s awesome that you can finally use the bands there. Hopefully there’s plans to use them at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris sometime within the next couple of years!
