Yesterday marked the first Walt Disney Company Earnings Call for 2021.

These earnings calls take place at the end of every fiscal quarter and give Disney executives a chance to update their investors. Typically, these calls give us a LOT of insight into how the company is doing, exciting happenings, and what’s to come. Here are 12 things you missed from yesterday’s report!
Many are eagerly anticipating the opening of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort.

The new land, originally anticipated to debut in summer 2020, was to open in two phases. The completed area would have two new attractions, three new dining locations, character encounters, and more. Due to the parks’ closure in spring 2020, the project was delayed.
We’ve been waiting ever so patiently to experience Avengers Campus at Disneyland Resort.

The closure of the Disneyland theme parks delayed the opening of the upcoming Avengers-themed land in Disney California Adventure. We’re not sure when Disneyland will reopen and we’re not sure if Avengers Campus will open with the parks, but the new land was looking a little different above the construction barriers last night.
Being long-time Disney fans, we’ve seen some things… .

Some of those things include videos of malfunctioning attractions, missing characters, and other Disney-related things that not only made us laugh, shocked us, or surprised us, but stayed with us a LONG time after we saw them. Or maybe it’s that we can’t UNSEE them. That’s why we’re sharing 5 videos that live in our heads rent free.
Throughout 2020 and even some of 2021, a lot of Disney news was about park closures, and updates on restaurants and resorts that have remained closed or have delayed their re-openings.

But, this week, the Disney news was a bit different. We talk a lot about how Disney is on the cutting edge of technology — and that’s true — but that’s not the only tool they have in their kit.

The rights to Marvel superheroes are kind of a confusing situation. Disney has the rights to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but not totally. Universal has the theme park rights to the Marvel comic characters in Orlando and a deal with Disney not to produce any Marvel theme park content too close to their parks. Sony still has some of the rights to Spider-Man. Is your head hurting yet?

Sony and Disney have struck a deal for the past few films that allows Disney to make Spider-Man movies — which is how we got Peter Parker in Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movies like Avengers:Endgame. Then, in 2019, the dealings fell apart. It looked like Disney and Sony weren’t going to reach an agreement and that Tom Holland’s Spider-Man would be removed from the MCU. Until, suddenly, they DID make an agreement. Alright, alright, we’ll back up. How did we get here and what does it even all mean??
Typically, when we find Disney patents, they show us some tech that we’ve yet to see. Today, that story was a little different.

We spotted a patent from Disney Imagineering today that details the technology behind the upcoming Spider-Man robot that we’ll see in Disney’s California Adventure’s Avengers Campus. This “stuntronic” will have the ability to fly through the air and pose much like a human gymnast. So, how the heck does that VERY advanced robot work?
