In February, Disney held its Q1 2023 earnings call — and we learned about the state of Disney+, how much money the parks were bringing in, and Disney’s plans to cut spending by $5.5 billion. Pretty big news! Well, get ready folks, it’s almost time for the NEXT earnings call.
Disney has been caught in a number of battles lately, and now Bob Iger has spoken up on a few of them.

When it comes to the Reedy Creek Improvement District drama and Disney’s battles with Governor DeSantis, Iger shared that some of DeSantis’ actions were “anti-business” and “anti-Florida.” And now Iger has responded to some more general criticism Disney has received about agenda-driven content.
On top of Disney’s battle with DeSantis over the Reedy Creek District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District), Disney has been in the news for its large amount of layoffs.

In 2022, former Disney CEO Bob Chapek announced a hiring freeze and when Bob Iger took over as CEO in November, he confirmed that this planned hiring freeze would still happen. Recently, though, Disney has started its first wave of layoffs from the company including some executives. Now, though, we have an update on the future of jobs at Disney World.
Disney’s annual passes have changed a lot over the years, but we just got a big update on one pass type.

No, it’s not about the potential for sales of new Annual Passes in Disney World. And it’s not about the price increases that have hit Disney World’s Annual Passes or even the Annual Passholder lawsuits related to Park Passes. This update is about a particular pass type you may have never realized was an option a while ago.
We’ve been following the feud between The Walt Disney Company and Florida’s Governor Ron DeSantis, and recent times have yielded lots of interesting updates.

A new Board of Supervisors appointed by Florida Governor DeSantis has met regarding the future of Disney’s Reedy Creek Improvement District (now called the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District) and they’ve recently discovered an agreement that was signed by Disney and the old Board that grants Disney quite a lot of power over certain decisions within the District moving forward. The new Board has threatened legal action and the Florida Governor has ordered an investigation into Disney’s agreements, all while Disney has defended the agreement. And now Disney CEO Bob Iger has commented on the situation.

On March 29th, 2023, the new Board of Supervisors that was appointed by DeSantis met for a second time to discuss several aspects of the District. The Board considered challenging some of the agreements with Reedy Creek’s former board that were approved before the new board took over and even threatened a lawsuit. Disney and DeSantis have gone back and forth commenting on the situation and now we’ve got another update.
Since Bob Iger returned as CEO of Disney, we’ve seen quite a few changes follow.
