RIP, Pork Shank…
We’ve been hearing rumors about this for a while, and it has finally to pass — the Pork Shank is no more.
Gaston’s Tavern opened in late 2012 as part of the New Fantasyland expansion in Magic Kingdom, featuring a variety of snacks and beverages. Headliner items on the menu — which, until now, has remained basically unchanged since the opening — include LeFou’s Brew (the Tavern’s own signature beverage) and Warm Cinnamon Rolls (noteworthy since they are no longer served at Main Street Bakery).
The one non-snack item on the list, though, might be the one that gained the biggest reputation from the get-go: the Pork Shank. This huge serving of meat-on-bone drew immediate comparisons to the iconic Jumbo Turkey Leg. Unlike the Turkey Legs, though, which have a home in every park, Gaston’s Tavern was the only place where you could consistently find a Pork Shank (aside from being served for a stint at Min & Bill’s Dockside Diner in Hollywood Studios), and ultimately it drew a dedicated fan base of its very own.
The Pork Shank has recently been removed from the menu at Gaston’s Tavern. Below is a screenshot of the current menu from the Walt Disney World website. [Read more…]
Well, here’s a new one for ya… how about starting your day UNDER THE STARS at Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant?
Yep, the perpetual evening setting of Sci-Fi Dine-In Restaurant is now the latest breakfast stop at Disney’s Hollywood Studios! This long-time, well-loved lunch and dinner spot is now offering a limited-run meal: guests can give breakfast a try at Sci-Fi Dine-In, currently available for booking from now until January 23, 2016 with seatings from 8:00 – 10:15 am. [EDITOR’S UDPATE: Please note that the trial run of breakfast at Sci-Fi Restaurant has ended, and at this point the option has not been renewed.]
Of course, this isn’t Sci-Fi’s first time serving up the most important meal of the day. For the past two years, it has played host to the Star Wars Dine-In Galactic Breakfast, a character meal held in conjunction with Star Wars Weekends. But Darth Vader and his Dark Side cronies stayed in a galaxy far, far away this go ‘round. The current breakfast offering is a non-character meal featuring pre-fixe selections.
Are you ready to check it out?

You know how we love our over-the-top gourmet HOT DOGS here at the DFB!
From the Barbecue Slaw Hot Dog and Chili-Cheese Dog at Casey’s Corner, to the Coney Island Dog at The Lunching Pad, to the fun assortment at The Mara in Animal Kingdom Lodge (the Mara BLT Hot Dog, the Reuben Hot Dog, and the African Chili-Cheese Hot Dog)… well, the bigger the variety of toppings to choose from, the better!
And now we’re excited to have SEVEN new gourmet hot dogs to add to the list at the Grand Floridian’s Gasparilla Island Grill! But there’s a little twist: the menu rotates. There are seven different hot dogs, with a different one featured each day of the week. Each hot dog is inspired by a different city or state in the U.S. So, let’s take a Hot Dog Tour of the country — courtesy of Gasparilla Island Grill — starting in…
The Cleveland Dog is topped with coleslaw and hot sauce. And the fries? Don’t look on the side for for this natural pairing, because they’re on top of this dog, too!
The Seattle Dog is topped with cream cheese (now, why didn’t I think of that?), but you’ll have to look under a huge — and SPICY! — pile of jalapeños, cabbage, and Sriracha to find it! [Read more…]
