Eating locally raised foods is a high priority for many consumers right now, and to celebrate this hot food trend, the Florida Local Marketplace offers fresh local fare with fun twists!

First up — the Florida Shrimp Ceviche with Fire Roasted Vegetables, Fried Plantains, and Cilantro. This is a fan favorite already (I keep overhearing people say “where’s that ceviche?” when I’m wandering the festival)!

While the festival had ceviche a couple of years ago at a different booth, this option seems like a fresher take on the dish. I loved the addition of fried plantains!

One of the long-time favorites of many Disney fans for dessert at Downtown Disney is the Ghirardelli Chocolate Shoppe and Soda Fountain in Orlando. Luckily — a new location just opened in Disney California Adventure in Disneyland Resort as well!

This spot serves some truly incredible sundaes and ice cream treats, but sometimes the dessert drinks get overlooked by guests (myself included) in favor of the more substantial menu items.

Over the past week I’ve sampled two Ghiaradelli dessert drinks that are Out. Of. This. World!! They are definitely now on my must-have (and go back and get again!) list…

Mexico

This crowd favorite had some big menu changes in 2011 – and came out a winner! Many of the items from last year are back for 2012, and there are a couple of nice additions that I loved. Let’s take a look!

With the popularity of Mexico’s La Cava del Tequila, we’re seeing the first introduction of tequila shots at the Food and Wine Festival (score!).

And while the Tequila Flight, featuring Blanco, Reposado, and Anejo Tequilas is a bit pricey, it’s a great presentation and a fun way to compare different tequilas alongside terrific eats! This was a winner for me!

I absolutely loved the ribeye taco last year, and this year’s Taco de Filete, featuring beef tenderloin and a medium-spicy Cascabel Pepper Sauce does not disappoint. The wilted scallion provides a nice punch of color and taste as well.

Review: Hollywood Scoops at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

OK, let’s be totally honest here (this is just between you and me, of course…). I’ve never ordered a hand-scooped ice cream cone in Disney World. NO KIDDING! (What can I say, I always prefer that ice cream cookie sandwich!)

Yep — until my last visit to Hollywood Scoops in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, I was ice-cream-cone-less. But this is no longer the case, my friends… Hollywood Scoops to the rescue!

Atmosphere

Nestled between the Hollywood Tower Hotel and Sunset Ranch Market, both themed to the late 1930’s, this brightly-colored stand fits perfectly into the World War II-era style of the Boulevard. You just want to stop here, right?

Even Scoops’ saucer-shaped light fixtures feature a scalloped edge, which was popular with early mid-century designers during the late 1930s and early 1940s. I love these!

We mentioned in August the exciting news that Food & Wine Weekends at the Waldorf Astoria Orlando and Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek would be returning in 2012 for the second year in a row!

Today? We’ve got a little more info for ya!

Billed as “the perfect complement to the Epcot International Food and Wine Festival“, Orlando Food & Wine Weekends will be held over all six weekends during the Epcot Food and Wine Festival.

Dining in Disneyland: 1972 Eats

I recently got my hands on this fabulous 1972 Guide to Disneyland. Flipping through it, I found the “Food and Refreshments” page and knew immediately that I had to share it here on the Disney Food Blog.

I love reading about all of the sponsors (at this time both Coke & Pepsi were park sponsors, gasp!) and checking out the fun food descriptions.

I also immediately noticed that a few of those items have stood the test of time and are still around today. You can never go wrong with a Monte Cristo from the Blue Bayou or Fried Chicken from Plaza Inn (Pavilion is what they’re calling it here).

Guests can still visit Coca-Cola Refreshment Corner and the Mint Julep Bar. Casa de Fritos is now called Rancho del Zocalo, and the River Belle Terrace has lost its Oscar Mayer moniker. But so many of these are still around, if only named something slightly different.

Review: Biergarten in Epcot’s Germany

We haven’t been to Biergarten in a while here on DFB, so I think it’s time to pay this fun spot a visit!

You’ll find it in Epcot’s Germany Pavilion, and this is THE place to find sausage and beer. They have other stuff, too…but if you don’t like sausage and beer, you may not get the most out of this restaurant.

Let’s take a look!

Atmosphere

Nestled in the back of the Germany Pavilion, Biergarten can be hard to find. It’s to the back, left of the pavilion, so look for a check-in desk in that general area.

As you head past and actually through Sommerfest, the German counter service offering, you enter an area that looks a little like a courtyard, but with a ceiling.

But once you’re fully into the restaurant, the view opens up, and you are transported to evening in a Bavarian Village town square that has been set up in preparation for a party. And you’re invited!
