Disney World tested the technology in 2021
The latest technology craze seems to be facial recognition. Our phones use it to unlock and approve purchases, Universal’s new Epic Universe theme park uses it to get into the park and unlock lockers, and airports use it to verify your identity. Well, now, facial recognition could be replacing even more of your air travel experience.
Let’s just say this weekend has been…EPIC.
We finally got a chance to explore Universal Orlando’s new theme park, Epic Universe. We’ve been running all over Super Nintendo World, as well as How To Train Your Dragon — Isle of Berk, Celestial Park, and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter — Ministry of Magic. We also got to get our first really good look at Dark Universe, including the INCREDIBLE Monsters Unchained ride. Well, there was something about that ride that REALLY impressed us that we haven’t talked about yet: the lockers.

While the park does not officially open until May 22nd, 2025, park previews are currently underway for Team Members and their guests, and we were able to get a sneak peek! Before actually getting to experience the park for ourselves, we speculated that certain attractions would require a locker system to keep your belongings in while you ride. Well, we finally know how this system will work, and spoiler alert: it is different than the lockers we are normally used to at the other two Universal parks.
Traveling is fun, but there is a downside if you travel by air. Airports are RARELY fun and the process of getting through security can be a lengthy one with a lot of hoops to jump through.
Orlando International Airport
Not only do you usually need to take your baggie of 3 oz. liquids out of your luggage, take your shoes off and take some of your electronics out of your bags, you also need to dig out your ID and boarding pass to show to a TSA agent even BEFORE you do all that. Of course, there are ways to skip some of that process, like TSA Precheck. However, some technology introduced last year could speed up the process even more.
If you fly to Disney World, your airport experience is about to get a little bit different.

There are a lot of ways to break the rules in Disney World and Cast Members have seen a wide variety of “creative” ways that guests try to push the limits. But recently, there have been some new policies and procedures put in place at Disney World — meaning that there are 4 NEW ways you could get kicked out of the parks!
In March, Disney rolled out a brand-new technology.
Facial Recognition
At the Magic Kingdom entrance, facial recognition testing kicked off! Guests could choose to enter the park through a different line that allowed them to give this new feature a try. The testing was set to end on April 23rd but was subject to be extended — and sure enough, it stuck around a few more days. But now, we’ve got an update on the project’s status!

As the parks continue with their phased reopening, preparations have been taking place for the big 50th anniversary celebration! But among all the construction and excitement, we’ve seen some changes to everyday operations. And nope, we’re not just talking about safety procedures or price changes — there have been also some major technological advances.
Disney is an innovator when it comes to technology, particularly technology used at its theme parks.
Let’s Get Scanning!
Most recently, the company began rolling out its new MagicMobile service on smart devices that allows guests to use their phones just like they do their MagicBands. And Disney World also began a testing phase of a new facial recognition program that allows guests to use their faces as a contactless way to get scanned into the parks.
