September is bringing some big refurbishment news to Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, and if you’ve got a trip planned, you’ll want to know what’s temporarily unavailable. Three rides are closed during the month, and while two of them will be back before long, one is going to be down for quite a while. Let’s walk through what you need to know so you don’t get caught off guard.

Cinderella Castle
Disney has officially announced that Frontierland is getting a massive Cars Land-inspired expansion called Piston Peak, and it’s already shaping up to be one of the biggest changes the park has seen in years. We’re talking two brand-new rides, a totally reimagined landscape, and even a geyser called Old Tankful. But here’s the thing: as excited as we are, we’re also nervous. Disney, please don’t fumble this. We’ve seen how game-changing lands can be when Imagineers absolutely nail it (Pandora, Galaxy’s Edge), but we’ve also seen how a highly hyped area can leave guests feeling underwhelmed if things don’t quite land the way we hoped. So here are the big reasons we’re begging Disney not to drop the ball on Piston Peak.

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin has closed for an extended refurbishment, which means you now have ONE fewer skip-the-line option at this park. Between this closure and the ongoing Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurb, the Magic Kingdom Lightning Lane Multi Pass list is shrinking fast. One by one, Magic Kingdom is dropping rides. Some closures are permanent (lookin’ at you, Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat) while others are just temporary, like Big Thunder Mountain Railroad.
