It was HUGE NEWS when it was announced that four Table Service restaurants in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom would start serving alcoholic beverages in late December 2016.
Why? Because — with the exception of Dinner at Be Our Guest Restaurant which opened in late 2012 — Magic Kingdom had always been a dry park, in keeping tradition with Walt Disney’s wishes for his original park, Disneyland.
And that’s why it remains relatively big news today that Crystal Palace and The Plaza Restaurant in Magic Kingdom have both just begun serving alcohol as well, with a selection of beer, wine, and a specialty cocktail at each location.
It’s the weekend! And we’re celebrating it with another DFB Video today where we’re “walking right down the middle of Main Street, U.S.A.” to take a FOOD TOUR!
There’s nothing quite like those first steps down Main Street, U.S.A. in the Magic Kingdom during your Disney World vacation with Cinderella Castle directly in view. Among all the shops, sounds, sights and even smells — because who doesn’t love the fragrance wafting from the Main Street Popcorn Cart? — are plenty of terrific spots to grab a snack or meal throughout your Magic Kingdom day. From hot dogs to ice cream to Starbucks coffee and (so much!) beyond, there is plenty on Main Street to keep you going! And we’re showing all of it to you by taking you on a Main Street Food Tour in our latest DFB YouTube Video! [Read more…]

at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom is a classic.
From its prime location at the Cinderella Castle end of Main Street, USA, to its elegant decor and moderately priced menu, The Plaza Restaurant is a truly great value. And the menu is family friendly (including those bottomless milkshakes!), so it’s easy to enjoy a meal with your whole crew.
But flashier dining options have relegated The Plaza to the realm of hidden gems.
And, honestly, we’re kind of okay with that. Because when Be Our Guest is booked solid, The Plaza is often a gettable alternative. And with a few new menu items, my most recent visit was a total home run.
Happy Sunday and happy October! We’re back with another edition of our Disney Food Round-up for you today.

It’s a pretty common occurrence. You’re in the middle of your Walt Disney World vacation, it’s the holiday season, and you’d love to enjoy a table service meal.
But there’s only one problem: you don’t have an Advance Dining Reservation (ADR).
Maybe your plans changed — or the weather did. Or it could just be that you planned to grab counter service, but now you’re rethinking that move. Whatever the situation, you might think that all hope is lost. There’s no way you’re getting into any Disney table service restaurant that you didn’t book 180 days out. Right?
You might be surprised to learn that I book a lot of tables just days before I head to Walt Disney World. And it’s not all that rare for me to change things up at the last minute — even during the busiest times of the year!
How do I do it? Flexibility helps a LOT. But if that’s not an option, what you need are some tried and true spots where you can probably score a table with very short notice, or even as a walk up.
Here are our suggestions for Where to Dine When You Don’t Have a Reservation in Walt Disney World. And if you love what you see here, be sure to check out the DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining for tons of great tips!
One of my favorite resort dining spots is The Wave…of American Flavors at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Bonus: it’s within walking distance (or a monorail ride) of Magic Kingdom!
The Wave offers a hearty start to your day. Enjoy an a la carte breakfast of some of the restaurant’s specialties, like Sweet Potato Pancakes.
And if you can’t make up your mind between sweet and savory, you can opt for the Buffet. [Read more…]
