Strawberry Lemonade at Enchanted Grove in Magic Kingdom

It’s been a sizzling hot week, so we hope you’re keeping cool! Maybe you have access to some delicious strawberry lemonade like the one to the right (in the Magic Kingdom). We’re counting down the days until we get our next fix of that stuff!

There’s lot of fun Disney food news this week as well as some awesome articles in the round-up, so let’s get started…

Disney Food News

Let’s review the latest news from this past week!

New Disney Food Blog Mini-Guide Just Around the Corner…

Just eeking out the final updates to the brand new Mini-Guide e-Book! (Thankfully, one of our fabulous columnists is in Disney World this week and has agreed to do a little extra recon for us!)

As you know, our DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book covers a wealth of information about Disney World food. But after hitting 250 pages, we reserved some of the more detailed info for our upcoming series of Mini-Guides.

The first in the series will be the Disney Food Blog Mini-Guide to Magic Kingdom Snacks, and it will be debuting very soon.

Detailed reviews, photos, prices, and snack-credit-worthiness of over 70 snacks in the Magic Kingdom are packed into this Mini-Guide, but, as always, we’ve included a few extras and bonus items as well!

We’ll have more information for you very soon; we can’t wait to hear what you think!

Here we go…On to the Round-Up!

Meet the World in Progressland shares the fabulous views seen only from Club 33!

Disney Contemporary Fan Site compares the Grand Floridian’s Citricos with the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill. Which would you choose?

DisneyTouristBlog reviews Disneyland’s Big Thunder Ranch BBQ. Yee-Haw!

Main Street Gazette shares with us a canyon skillet at Whispering Canyon Cafe.

Disney Contests and Sweepstakes gives us the scoop on the Rainforest Cafe Orlando’s summer photo contest. Good luck!

Guest Review: Contempo Cafe

Welcome Bill Iadonisi with a review of the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary Resort. Bill shows us all the modern features of this convenient, quick-service location. Take it away, Bill!

Disney’s Contempo Cafe, located on the former site of the Concourse Steakhouse at Disney’s Contemporary Resort, has been open since November 15, 2008.

Atmosphere

Although I really enjoyed the Steakhouse, this new Café is a wonderful replacement. In fact it makes more sense to have a table-service eatery (Chef Mickey’s) and a quick-service right next to each other. The Grand Canyon Concourse is always bustling with foot traffic, and since the Monorail station is right above, it’s a perfect place for guests to grab a quick bite or beverage before hitting the parks!

DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book Recommendation

On MiceChat, Sam Gennaway recommends Disney World essentials, including The DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining!

A quick quote from the review: “[AJ’s] goal was to write a book that is unlike any other Disney guidebook. In that respect, she has succeeded. This could only come from somebody who realizes that dining is more than just eating at Disney, it is an important part of the whole experience. Plus, the book tries really hard to find the proper balance between planning and spontaneity, which is not easy anymore.”

Thanks to Sam, again, for this review, and thanks to MiceChat for sharing it! If you’d like to check out the e-Book, pick up your copy here!

And now, on to the round up…

A World View reviews our own Disney Food Blog Restaurant Search Tool! Thanks, Bruce!

Progress City, U.S.A. examines the Germany pavilion in Epcot’s World Showcase including the Biergarten! Grab a snack from Sommerfest and check out these details.

Pitch interviews a former WDW chef. Find out how Celina Tio began cooking at Disney!

Thanks to Stitch Kingdom for giving us a heads up on a new cookbook to be published this fall.

Portobello, the Italian restaurant in Downtown Disney — not the mushroom — showcases pictures from their Cooking Class on May 13th!

MousePlanning reviews the brick oven made pizza at Via Napoli.

DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining e-Book Testimonial

For a quick spotlight on the Disney Food Blog’s DFB Guide this week, but I’d like to share a testimonial written by one of my favorite people (and probably yours as well!), Lou Mongello, the rockstar behind WDWRadio:

There is nothing else so well-written, comprehensive and FUN about Walt Disney World dining! You offer practical advice and examples that are beneficial to the first-time guest and seasoned Disney veteran. From the breakdown of the restaurants by location, price, cuisine and your personal recommendations (all of which I found myself agreeing with!!), to the “overlooked” dining experiences, I found the book valuable, interesting and truly fun to read from beginning to end. The time and money that people will save alone is worth the price of the book! I highly recommend the DFB Guide to any and every Walt Disney World guest!

Thanks to Lou for that great recommendation! If you’d like to purchase your copy of the DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, click here!

DIY Disney: Chocolate Lava Cake from California Grill

Today, Chef Big Fat Panda’s DIY Disney Recipes column brings us a mouth-watering favorite from the Contemporary Resort’s California Grill. Take it away, Panda!

Ingredients

Hello! Chef BigFatPanda here!

Please forgive me for being away for so long. Life took hold of me and wouldn’t let go. I am sure you’ve been there. I am so delighted to bring you this new installment of decadent Chocolate Pleasure. The following is from Disney’s Contemporary Resort’s California Grill — Chocolate Lava Cake!

Let me share with you that this appears to be an easy straightforward recipe, but it was tougher than it looked. I try to choose recipes that are approachable and not very intimidating. While this is all those things, the effect of the “lava” is something that can [Read more…]

Review: New Breakfast Buffet at The Wave in Disney’s Contemporary Resort

We’ve been reporting the news, and now I get to share the pics with you! The Wave…of American Flavors in Disney World’s Contemporary Resort has a brand new meal — a breakfast buffet! They’ve been testing it since December, and according to one of the managers I had a chance to speak with, it looks like it’s going to stay. I’m glad to hear it; the buffet is delicious.

Atmosphere and Background
As we know, The Wave focuses on a sustainable menu full of local products. In fact, The Wave was just approved to change their menu every few months — they’re one of the only non-signature restaurants able to do this — so that they can offer an even wider variety of seasonal, local ingredients. I’m looking forward to the updates!

Gingerbread Displays In Disney World 2010, Part 1

Gingerbread is elevated to an art form in Disney World during the holiday season — literally. While tasty treats do exist for purchase in Disney World bakeries…

…the real draw is to the incredible displays throughout the theme parks and deluxe resorts! I’m excited to share with you this holiday season the amazing edible holiday artwork that has been built in the parks and resorts by many talented Disney Chefs and Cast Members. You saw a little peek of this last week in our showcase of the Grand Floridian Gingerbread House!

Today, let’s take a look at three of Disney World’s deluxe resorts — Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and Disney’s Boardwalk Resort.
