Primo Piatto serves as the resort’s quick service and grab-and-go location offering breakfast, lunch, and dinner! This trattoria serves hearty Italian favorites, which as owners of hearty appetites, we can really appreciate! And guess what, Disney dining plan peeps? Primo Piatto counts as a quick-service meal option for you guys! Now let’s go check it out!
BONJOUR! We are having a blast eating our way through the 2019 Epcot International Food and Wine Festival.
We’ve been jammin’ out to the Eat the Beat Concerts, spending too much $$$ on adorable souvenirs, and of course, eating our way around the 30+ Festival Kiosks. Thank goodness the festival is a record-breaking 87 days this year — there is so much to do! Including a recent return visit to one of our favorite Festival Special Events: the Parisian Breakfast.
If you haven’t heard the big news, I’m here to deliver it: April is Grilled Cheese Month. And that, my friends, is a food holiday that we can totally get behind.
Because we know of a BUNCH of seriously worthy grilled cheese choices in the Disney parks and resorts that we can’t wait to tell you about!
And if you love what you see here, be sure to check out our 2017 DFB Guide to Walt Disney World Dining, which includes tons of bonus features, like fun food crawls throughout Walt Disney World!
Now pack your bags and your stretchy pants, cause it’s time to head to both coasts to partake in the Disney Food Blog Grilled Cheese Crawl!
(Should there be Rocky music playing here or something? I feel like there should be.)
Who’s coming with? Let’s go!
Our first stop: Walt Disney World!
Pimento Grilled Cheese, Planet Hollywood Observatory
If you were there with us when Planet Hollywood Observatory opened (or actually, reopened) its doors earlier this year, then you know that we weren’t all that impressed with most of what we tried. But there was one standout: the Pimento Grilled Cheese.
The triple decker sandwich is two meals in one. First, you have a fairly traditional Grilled Cheese, spiced up with the addition of Pimento Cheese. But then, the second story involved super cheesy Mac and Cheese layered between crunchy Grilled Bread. Yep, that’s A Layer of Carbs on Top of More Carbs. And we are completely fine with that. Greetings from sunny California! We’re coming to you from Disneyland where the 2017 Disney California Adventure Food and Wine Festival is in full swing!
And the Festival is running EVERYDAY this year. So that means you’ve got from now through April 16th to try your top picks at this year’s FOURTEEN Festival Marketplace Booths.
To help you make your list, I’ve tackled each and every food item at ALL of them. Well, with the help of our Dining in Disneyland columnist and best west coast dine-around pal, Heather Sievers, of course!
Click here to check out photos AND prices of ALL the food at the Festival! (Allergy-Friendly Menus, Too!)
Overall, we found the food to be fantastic. It was much better than last year, and much MUCH better than Festival of Holidays. They’re thinking outside of the box and experimenting a little with flavors, and I commend that. [Read more…]
Great news, corn dog lovers!
The Fantasy Fare Food Truck has arrived in Downtown Disney!
This latest one brings “culinary traditions from Disney Parks around the globe to Disney World”, and lucky for us that means that the famous Disneyland hand-dipped corn dogs have now come to Disney World…in name at least! 😉
It was OUR job to try them and see how they compare. Will the Disney World version have that sweet, crumbly-but-moist cornbread coating? With the dogs be flavorful and juice? Will the same Disneyland atmosphere and feeling be replicated in Disney World’s Downtown Disney?
It’s time to find out!
But first — the truck! Let’s take a look… .
Similar to its predecessors, the truck itself is has a pretty terrific design.
I’d pictured something along the lines of a Castle theme (since Disney Parks world over each have their own iconic Castle); however, they’ve gone with a circus-theme, bringing to mind the Storybook Circus area in the Magic Kingdom’s New Fantasyland.
The bright, cheerful red stands out immediately and is slightly — VERY slightly — reminiscent of the Little Red Wagon in Disneyland, no? Check out the hidden mickeys!
The menu features “Delightful Dishes from Disney’s Magic Kingdoms Around the World!” [Read more…]
As we announced earlier, Downtown Disney Orlando will soon debut mobile eateries as the popular Walt Disney World district joins the Food Truck craze!
But now we have a DATE RANGE (yes, this is how it works) to look forward to! In early November, Disney will welcome four new food trucks to Downtown Disney’s West Side (near Cirque de Soleil and House of Blues).
Let’s get to the food…
Superstar Catering truck
“Favorite of the Stars of Disney’s Hollywood Studios,” this truck will feature hearty meatball variations: a spinach and feta beef meatball sandwich; turkey sausage and golden raisin meatballs on polenta; and a lamb meatball flatbread with tzatziki. For the kids (or kids at heart!) — meatball sliders!
With a stainless steel exterior accented in teal, tan and orange, this truck will be reminiscent of a 1930s Art Deco diner.
Namaste Café truck
“Tasty Explorations from Disney’s Animal Kingdom,” is the theme at this colorful truck! Designed with an Asian influence, guests will enjoy Sanaa-inspired food. We can’t wait to sample the BUTTER CHICKEN!!!!!!!!!, slow-cooked beef short ribs, and tandoori spiced shrimp. All dishes will be served with [Read more…]
Remember when we wondered “will there be food trucks at Disney Springs?”
Well, now we’ve got answers! And there’s one new addition we’re particularly excited about!
With the announcement of the Downtown Disney renovation including the new name Disney Springs, we were sure hoping that food trucks would roll into the area! And guess what? The first food truck is expected to arrive later this Fall!
In fact, there will be themed food trucks!! Let’s take a closer look at what will be available…
Enchanted Fare Food Truck
But the big news here? WE’RE GETTING THE DISNEYLAND HAND DIPPED CORN DOGS IN DISNEY WORLD!!!!
Will they be up to snuff?? Who knows. But I can’t wait to try ’em!
The World Showcase of Flavors Food Truck
Bonjour, Mes Amis!
We are heading to the City of Lights today for a luncheon at one of Epcot’s most iconic eateries, Les Chefs de France!
Chefs de France
The bistro, located in the France Pavilion, has been a fixture of World Showcase since Epcot’s earliest days. It’s served thousands of meals to Epcot guests, and you’ll still find its tables full if you visit today.
Les Chefs de France has had the happy distinction for me of providing consistently decent food and friendly service — something that can’t always be said about Disney restaurants. Since I’ve had some truly fine meals here, I was ready to head back for lunch with AJ’s Mom and Dad (whom many of you know!).
The food has been good to great during every visit that I’ve made in recent years to Les Chefs de France — but that’s only part of the story. Because I would be in love with this restaurant based upon looks alone.
That’s because I personally think that Les Chefs de France represents some excellent restaurant themeing. If it weren’t for the kid in Mickey ears at the next table, it’s very possible that you’d forget you’re actually in Florida.
We visited during the day, but I just couldn’t help but show you this gorgeous view of Les Chefs de France at night.
It reminds me so much of my first trip to Paris that I wanted to share it with you.
And that’s the beauty of this restaurant. If you’ve had the pleasure of a trip to Paris, you will probably have eaten in (or at least seen) a spot that looks Just. Like. This.
Photos of the original “Les Chefs de France” team — Paul Bocuse, Gaston Lenotre, and Roger Vergé — line the walls. These days, Chef Bocuse’s son, Jerome Bocuse, runs the France Pavilion restaurant empire. (Check out the photo of Chef Bocuse on opening day in front of Les Chefs de France that hangs upstairs in Monsieur Paul. You can see it in our review here.)
The color palette in Les Chefs de France tends toward [Read more…]
UPDATE: Please note that as of February 25, 2015, Be Our Guest Restaurant began to accept Advanced Dining Reservations for lunch. For further information, please click here.
Today, it’s time to head back into New Fantasyland for my very first taste of lunch at this must-do restaurant!
Because Be Our Guest Restaurant differs greatly from the run-of-the-mill counter service spots around Disney, I’m going structure this review according to how you progress through the restaurant. Follow the headlines, and it should all make sense. 🙂
We have a ton of great detail to cover, so let’s get right to it!
Amid a backdrop of rugged, austere mountains of New Fantasyland, you find the bridge and gateway that ushers you into Beast’s enchanted castle, home to Be Our Guest Restaurant.
Now that the enormous eatery is officially opened, there are still extraordinarily long lines for lunch on many days, as guests await their turn to see inside and sample the food.
We know that Disney is testing a fastpass like system and a pre-ordering for Be Our Guest, so the lines may soon be a thing of the past. But, in the meantime, be sure you know when they begin serving lunch (usually around 10am or 10:30am) so that you can get there early.
Regardless, the line did move quickly (it’s about a 30 minute wait from the back of the bridge); and soon, I was walking into the castle.
Once inside, you find pretty much exactly what you would expect: low-lighted spaces with beamed ceilings reminiscent of medieval European castles. Enchanted suits of armor guard the long entryway. At the end of the hall, you see the stained glass window depicting Belle and Beast’s famous dancing scene.
Listen closely, and you’ll hear the suits of armor murmuring to each other in French accents!
As you enter the ordering area, thoughtful touches tell you that you’ve arrived in the beast’s library!!
This ornate room is home to a cozy fireplace and Beast’s enormous chair. You’ll also find the automated ordering areas masquerading as [Read more…]
Editor’s Note 4/13/16: Sadly, the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese is no longer on the menu at Captain Cook’s. It didn’t return after the restaurant underwent a recent refurbishment. Read more here.
It’s been grilled cheese weather for us out there, and I’m pretty sure it has been for many of you as well! So it’s time to put together our list of the Best Grilled Cheese in Disney Restaurants…and I can’t wait to hear your additions!
You know we love cheese around here, and Disney has found lots of different ways to be creative with this particular recipe for success.
Let’s take a look at our favorites in Disney World and Disneyland!
Walt Disney World Grilled Cheese
Before we catch a flight to California, let’s see what’s happening, grilled-cheese-wise, at Walt Disney World!
Tomato Bisque and Grilled Cheese at Beaches and Cream
OK, I’ll admit that this sammich is currently my #1 at Walt Disney World! I tried it (belatedly) in October and couldn’t get enough!
When you’re down for the count and need some sustenance to get through your park touring, trust me and head over to Beaches and Cream at Disney’s Beach Club Resort for their take on a familiar favorite: Tomato Bisque and Grilled Cheese.
Six flavorful cheeses make up the blend on this amazing entry. And buddied up with sourdough bread and super creamy tomato bisque, this is comfort food perfection.
Grown-Up Grilled Cheese at Captain Cook’s
A cult favorite among Disney fans, Captain Cook’s at Disney’s Polynesian Resort has a must-try entry into the Grilled Cheese category: the Grown-Up Grilled Cheese.
What’s so adult about this one? Three cheeses — cheddar, Swiss, and Boursin (Boursin!) — melted together on a hearty sunflower bread give this one the perfect marriage of creamy and nutty. It’s lovely.
